Feel the same and ‘do’ the same/lol. Love mah books! They are as much a part of my home as is the furniture. (Husband downloads; I can do same on my i-pad; but no; paper versus notebook/tablet; no comparison/sigh. Of course, realize the ‘day will come’. Just will not be mine; however.

And yes, I know there’s already Kindle.

And the Kindle is a mass market device that didn't enter the field until the technology had already reached a level of maturity warranting the risk of a huge inventory mass market launch.

Electronic book sales online already outnumber paper book sales online, and the market for practical purposes did not start until Sony launched the Sony Libre (only available in Japan) back in 2004. Seven years to surpass paper is fairly rapid adoption.

Books are nice but bulky. I’ve gone over to a Kindle simply because I don’t have room for all the books!
Personally, I think the Kindle readers are nicer than the Kindle Fire (which is pretty darn good!). The Kindle Fire’s primary advantage is that I can read PDFs off it.

"What is wrong with earbuds?"

For starters they suck sound quality wise.

No Bass reproduction and so kids TURN UP the Volume even louder trying to get a fuller sound which damages their hearing faster.

We are out of room for bookshelves and books

Three of the walls in My bedroom are floor to ceiling book shelves. The next project is pulling the bed out from the wall and putting in more book shelves. I feel very secure sleeping in the midst of knowledge.

Then I’m fine. I just use them to listen to books. I was worried there was something medical.
Thanks!

Surely you have an optical drive in a computer?

I had to check, but I do. I've never used it.

>>Actually CD will probably stick around more for the small guys than the big guys. Touring bar bands make most of their money on the merch table, and item #1 on the merch table is CDs.

Most of my CD purchases fall into this category.

For book lovers, never mind the rest, there will never be a good substitute for a leather- or buckram-bound book, printed letterpress on fine laid paper, redolent of ink and wood pulp. And then to have the pages disappear as one enters the world created by the author.

Over and above the possibility of getting things autographed there is something very satisfying about buying a CD when the band is in the same room.

Too late for me - but my hearing was damaged by artillery not loud music.
Its still pretty good though. I never turned the music up all that high.

One summer in the mid 50s in Logan WVA, I visited the library at dead man’s curb on Stratton St. I saw the Wizard of Oz books leather bound. Read them all. I will never forget the fell of those books. While I like the experience. I also like the convenience of traveling with my wife’s Kindle and having so many books at my command, so conveniently.

I saw a short video in the mid or late 80s, produced by Apple and I think George Lucas. Guy puts his lecture together by telling the computer assistant on screen what he needs and what to include, checks e-mail and plans dinner without touching the “pad.” Comes back makes a few moves and his lecture is ready, complete with video. That’t with some voice command is the iPad. and that’s what there will be more of over the next few years. Get on the plane or the carriage. It’s your choice.

Let’s face it, the world is changing and some of us are in the express check out line. Enjoy the amazement going on around you. I’m 65 and I look forward to what comes along while I can use and enjoy it. But feel free to buy me a gift book or take me on a carriage ride around the park.

Thanks for the tip on Sound Hound -- amazing app.

My wife is always asking for a list of music she hears in movies or on tv.... she'll like this!

Dave, the BEST is when my wife is driving the kids and I to school/work and I use it to identify whatever’s on the radio, and soundhound gives you the lyrics and I sing loud, slow and off key the lyrics.

My kids LOVE it, I’ve had to walk to work several times though...

Retailers will have nothing to sell.

You mean the $15 - $20 CDs that I can buy online for $10?
