With his recent rise in the polls, Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich is crisscrossing the nation with a message that he is the conservative alternative to Mitt Romney. But in another season of his life, Gingrich carried out a very different mission: promoting moderates.
At a 2004 event sponsored by the Republican Main Street Partnership, a coalition of centrist lawmakers, Gingrich touted his openness to candidates that don't toe the conservative line and condemned hardliner groups such as the influential small-government PAC Club for Growth for refusing to endorse candidates that they thought veered too far to the center.
"Everywhere I've been, I've argued in favor of electing the moderates," Gingrich said in 2004, according to a report in Bloomberg Businessweek at the time.

NO American citizen can be detained indefinitely without legal representation. Furthermore, we have laws in place to apprehend terrorist suspects.
This is just another power grab cloaked in a “National Defense” bill.
The bill states that it does NOT apply to United States Citizens :
SEC. 1032. REQUIREMENT FOR MILITARY CUSTODY
(b) Applicability to United States Citizens and Lawful Resident Aliens-
(1) UNITED STATES CITIZENS- The requirement to detain a
person in military custody under this section does not
extend to citizens of the United States.

Do you actually believe our Federal Government will not violate their own law? History proves otherwise.
The media pumps Newt up now, but we aoo know what they will do to him later.
Even though Newt has his moderate side to go with his conservative one, that is not enough for the extreme leftists in the media.
I want a real conservative, not the ones who talk the talk then go another way.

Ain't that the truth!
He's better than Obama.
Great link!
Should be posted as a separate thread.
I’m not shocked. That’s the quality of thinking in the conservative base. Impressive, isn’t it?
“Everywhere I’ve been, I’ve argued in favor of electing the moderates,” Gingrich said in 2004, according to a report in Bloomberg Businessweek at the time.
That’s what I’ve observed. He’s not suitable to run as a Republican. When he says moderate, he doesn’t mean moderates like Reagan.
The record # of "debates" play to Newt's strongest suit. He's a masterdebater. He's the smartest con-man in any room he enters.
RINOS = Republican Implementing Nuances Of Socialism = Republican Idiots Not Officially Sane (thanks Graewoulf) = Really Insane Nuanced Opportunistic Socialists.
When Newt Gingrich spoke for 40 min with Hannity, yesterday:

The man has a long record — plenty of cherries to pick if you’re inclined. And yesterday he spoke for forty minutes, you’re welcome to pick through that too and try to find a “misstatement,” an “uhhh...” or an evasive platitude where a factual and precise reply ought to be.
Among the highlights, Gingrich says in the first hours he will sign out of existence a huge percentage of Obama’s government, starting with the czars. What he does NOT say — because it isn’t in his plans — is that he’ll confer with his advisors after exercising his superb ability to select the best people, and then they’ll tell him the best way to go forward.
But there you are. Forty minutes. Have yourself a treasure hunt!
Newt was right! Does anybody here remember being swept our of the House, Senate and White house? I do. That was at least one instance where we should have listened to him. Maybe we wouldn’t be in this particular mess as Obama was swept in with the lot of them.
These guys must have really, REALLY hated Ronald Reagan.
They probably would have been calling for his impeachment after the “That person who agrees with you 80 percent of the time is a friend and an ally” and all of the RINOs he helped get elected.
No worries, though, some of us would be here defending Ronnie and fighting them!
How exactly do you think this is breaking news?
It’s editorial. It’s not even front page or extended.
I know you desire is to dump Gingrich, so putting it in Breaking seemingly gets lots of attention, but it doesn’t in the long run.
Breaking = something big has just happened and is now being reported for the first time..
We have a lot of people on FR who seem to think that they can only support their "hero" or someone they really, unconditionally, love. (Palin, Cain).
Newt is not my hero. I don't go to sleep with his picture under my pillow.
If DeMint, Daniels, Barbour, Ryan, or Jindal were in the race, Newt would not be my first choice.
But they aren't and he is.
I agree with your post #37.
They probably would have been calling for his impeachment after the That person who agrees with you 80 percent of the time is a friend and an ally and all of the RINOs he helped get elected.
+1
Have you thought about Santorum, who doesn’t have all of this baggage?
