What do you call a family-oriented former governor who supported and signed every pro-life bill sent his way, passed the largest tax cut in his states history, enacted the most expansive school voucher program in the nation and presided over what was cited as one of the most business-friendly states?
Many Republicans, and much of the media, call this a moderate. That is how they are labeling former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman, who officially entered the GOP presidential fray on Tuesday. Whenever Huntsmans name is mentioned, it is usually accompanied by that most unhelpful of primary season adjectives. But while Huntsmans temperament is moderate his record isnt. Indeed, his policy positions should endear him to most conservatives.
Huntsman has a strong pro-life record, both as a chief executive, signing several innovative pro-life laws as Utahs governor from 2005 to 2009, and as a private citizen, as a father of seven, two adopted. He also supports gun rights and has an unwavering commitment to Israel.
Huntsman signed the largest tax cut in Utah history. During his tenure, the state was named the nations best managed by the Pew Center on the States, and cited as one of the top three states in which to do business. Forbes labeled Huntsmans Utah the most fiscally fit state for its combination of low debt and taxes and low unemployment.
When Huntsman left office, he had an 84 percent approval rating among Utah voters. Polls show that he is still well-regarded by his former constituents which cant be said for some other former governors in the GOP race.
On the hustings, Huntsman has already voiced support for Rep. Paul Ryans budget plan, and has pledged to repeal Obamacare.

You realize this is from the Politico. Right?
Well the politico is certainly the publication I look to for political advice./s
Personally I thought this was from the Onion.
I do.....and why should that disqualify it? I mean the Washington Post runs op-eds by George Will that I like.
This article was from June 21, by the way.
Ummmmmmmm......................no. In interviews I’ve found him to be a condescending elitist.
I didn’t say it diqualfied it at all. Considering Politico’s antics of late, I just wanted to make sure you understood where it came from.
I think it would behoove us if we got over the need to see red-meat conservative identity politics that rile the base, and actually looked at platforms and records. Huntsman is firmly to the RIGHT of Newt, Mitt, Perry, & Cain. Please read the article and tell me where you disagree.
Not that Huntsman is a perfect conservative candidate. He does look like a moderate on the environment and immigration, as well as in his support of civil unions for gay couples though he has opposed gay marriage.
Isn’t an elitist always condenscending? :-)
What has Huntsman “conserved?”
What a joke. You realize Huntsman is fully supportive of man made global warming, and insists on advancing a Cap & Trade Bill, right? After the latest batch of Climate Fraud emails was exposed last week proving even more so that “man made global warming” is pure nonsense as science, but pure agenda politics of the Left, it only makes Huntsman look weaker than he already is. Which is seriously weak.
It might as well be from the Onion. There credibility is in the toilet.
I definitely have a lot of good to say about Jon Huntsman..

He would be 100 times better than the current occupant. In fact every one of the GOP candidates running would be that.
That is, until they got into office.
Who?
Didn’t Huntsman work for Obama?
I really think he works for communist China now. You know, how some government regulator hacks, revolve the door to work for the companies they (didn’t) regulate.
Huntsman seems to have done that now, and gone over to the “free trade” China side.
No thanks.
This is the second article you’ve linked to claiming Huntsman is conservative. He isn’t. He’s a RINO who worked for Obama. The leftist sources you use are just trying to get him accepted by real conservatives, and you seem to be falling for it. BTW, this article dates from last June, so it isn’t currently relevant anyway.
You’re supposed to put the date of publication in the “Date Published” field (thus the name), which in this case would show that this is six months old.
