SAN DIEGO (AP) -- Tis the season for finding cross-border drug tunnels.
The latest secret passage - equipped with a hydraulic lift, electric rail cars, wooden staircase and end-to-end wood floors - was discovered Tuesday on the U.S.-Mexico border, highlighting an emerging seasonal trend. For three years, authorities have found the most sophisticated tunnels shortly before the winter holidays in what officials speculate is an attempt by drug smugglers to take advantage of Mexico's fall marijuana harvest.
The discovery of the 600-yard tunnel resulted in seizures of 32 tons of marijuana, one of the largest pot busts in U.S. history, said Derek Benner, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's special agent in charge of investigations in San Diego. It linked warehouses in San Diego and Tijuana and was equipped with lighting and ventilation.

4,096,000 quarter sacks @ say $40.00 a sack $163,840,000.
Legal to grow, possess and use. No license to sell.
That's darn near enough for San Diego County for a year.
Why aren’t we flooding these tunnels?
Need to find them first, that means inspecting building of any real size on the border on a really regular basis inspecting trucks going to & from those building that may be hauling barrels of dirt.
Pretty soon you start pissing folks off cause you are assuming they are drug smugglers with no proof.
Meanwhile the tunnel is being dug by hand 40 feet down to go under your local utilities & to generally prevent sound detection from the Mexican side of the border.
Haha, nice.
Sure fire proof that Border Fences Werk Fer Yoo!
[Makes my eyes red just reading this story....got milk?]
WEll, I was about to ask fer FUNYUNS Man! (Cheetos will work in a pinch.)
These tunnels are mainly dug by hand, can you imagine what will happen when they figure out how to build a tunnel boring machine.
A project that would creep along a pace of a few yards a day would proceed at the pace of a few yards an hour.
Instead of taking months it would take weeks maybe even days.
Untrue.
In many experiments, it is shown that it is the frequency and probability of apprehension that effects decisions to engage in criminal behaviors, not severity of punishment.
It's astounding how ignorant some Americans still are...
It's estimated Mexicans roll through our borders with 2000 tons of dope and God knows what else, every few months, on a routine basis..So many hundreds of billions involved, it's likely half the wealthy insiders running the U.S. government are in on the payroll.
So many millions of illegals enter unabated, they're now have pot farms all over the U.S. too
But don't worry, your government has made a lucrative industry out of this too, which allows government to grow and expand even more...
All this allows the government to seized cars, homes, assets...Look at the courts today...They have more cash registers in them than a Super Wallmart...The reality is, they only catch a a few who are actually caught in this concocted dog and pony sham.
Holy crap,that’s a lot of weed,LOL!
LOL.
Ah,yes.Short-term memory loss.
A lot of weed? That’s nothing. They found 60 tons of Twinkies right after.
LOL.
Marijuana does make food taste better.(Although, from my experience,if the food was awful before I smoked,it tasted even worse.)
I don’t smoke it anymore. It really messes with my mind, and not in a good way. It doesn’t make me calm.
I think the people that smoke the product may have the blood of those murdered or maimed to protect the trade on their hands. Since an end user doesn’t know where his pot comes from, he could be smoking “blood pot”(think “blood diamonds”). I get flamed sometimes for making this connection because it is popular to think in some circles, even on this forum, that a little pot smoking is okay and if the government would just get out of the drug wars there would be a lot less killing....maybe..! Yet some of these same pot smokers would never think to incur the risks of growing their own then smoking it instead of just buying pot from questionable dealers who may, (or their sources) have blood on their hands.
