I have often wondered about the etymology of the slang term “broad” for a sexually attractive woman. Some of them have narrow bodies, the only part in which broadness is tolerated being the, er, bosom.

The word “broad” has nothing to do with attractiveness or sexuality. Most often, it is applied to women who are thought of as being good-hearted, funny, and enjoying the company of men. Think of Rose Marie as Sally in the old Dick Van Dyke Show.
