My own theory is that since the left views political success as the holy grail and the only way the achieve their Utopia, nothing matters more to them.
So naturally there is no greater threat - no enemy military, violent criminal or murderous religion that wants to kill us, nothing - to them and no one they hate more than their domestic political opposition.
