President Barack Obama The White House 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW Washington, D.C. 20500
Dear Mr. President,
It is with a great sense of disappointment that I write this. Like many others, I hoped that your election would bring a salutary change of direction to the country, despite what more than a few feared was an overly aggressive social agenda. And I cannot credibly blame you for the economic mess that you inherited, even if the policy response on your watch has been profligate and largely ineffectual. (You did not, after all, invent TARP.) I understand that when surrounded by cries of "the end of the world as we know it is nigh", even the strongest of minds may have a tendency to shoot first and aim later in a well-intended effort to stave off the predicted apocalypse.
But what I can justifiably hold you accountable for is your and your minions' role in setting the tenor of the rancorous debate now roiling us that smacks of what so many have characterized as "class warfare". Whether this reflects your principled belief that the eternal divide between the haves and have-nots is at the root of all the evils that afflict our society or just a cynical, populist appeal to his base by a president struggling in the polls is of little importance. What does matter is that the divisive, polarizing tone of your rhetoric is cleaving a widening gulf, at this point as much visceral as philosophical, between the downtrodden and those best positioned to help them. It is a gulf that is at once counterproductive and freighted with dangerous historical precedents. And it is an approach to governing that owes more to desperate demagoguery than your Administration should feel comfortable with.

Well, "many people" credibly do.
You did not, after all, invent TARP.
No, he helped develop the "toxic assets" themselves.
Leon Cooperman IS naive.
He doesn’t quite perceive, or perhaps cannot bring himself to admit, the danger of the wounded Federal Beast armed with the powers We the People have carelessly allowed it to accrue.
Its like blaming the rider of an out of control spirited horse.
And I’m sure he’ll read it...
Undfortunately the President will understand about three words this guy wrote. I am thinking “and” “the” “if”.
My bet is the President truly does not know what “is” is.
“Like many others, I hoped that your election would bring a salutary change of direction to the country.”
Like many others, we would rather have had hot needles pierced through our eyeballs than see you elected.
Copyright restrictions apply downthread, too. Thanks.
Wow, it took him until nearly the end of the letter to get to the heart of the disagreement between him and Obama.
If this letter actually did get to his hands, I wonder if he would actually understand the message....
He is the President and needs to act like it. I think he needs to watch Remember the Titans, particularly the scene where Gery and Julius first talk, just change the subject to the House and Senate on the economic situation. Attitude reflects leadership, captain.

Mind you - this guy probably voted for obama in the first place.
We saw this scourage in 2007 - now its his own voters getting pissed off.
“Copyright restrictions apply downthread, too. Thanks.”
I would never have guessed that they do. Thanks for the heads up.
Mr. Cooperman could have written this letter in one paragraph.
I think the letter is rather weak.
And...it sounds like he voted for Mr. Obama in ‘08.
Hah! Buyer’s remorse.
Nice try, Leon. But in life, you done good!
Oh yeah, one more thing: Don’t vote for Mr. Obama next year. He’s not worthy of your vote.
It's not a "social agenda", it's a socialIST agenda.
It would be interesting to learn how much campaign $ Cooperman has given to Bam.
It’s a great letter. However, the level of narcissism that infects Barak Hussein Ubama is so great that he would never be able to grasp the intent of this very thoughtful letter. Sad.
That was my impression too. And yes, it sounds as if he did vote for Obama.
Mr. Cooperman, I am disappointed in you for voting for Obama. A capitalist voting for a marxist is suicidal and I am not sure why you expected anything different.
Buffaloguy
Uh, er... uh... Valerie, would you come in here and tell me what the heck this guy is talking about.
Obama is a communist. I do NOT blame Obama for being a communist. He is simply what he is.
HOWEVER, I DO blame those dolts who voted for him. Anyone with half a brain and was a member of an informed electorate would have seen clearly that Obama is a communist.
I do hope the dolts come down with the worst case of the flu next November, or as dolts are wont to do, just forget that it’s election day.
Those who voted for him deserve more blame than obama himself.
