Just days after Newt Gingrich won the endorsement of the New Hampshire Union Leader, one of his rivals sat down with another Granite State newspaper. Rick Santorum met with the editorial board of the Nashua Telegraph Monday for an hour and was asked about Gingrichs comments on immigration at last weeks CNN and American Enterprise Institute debate.
At the debate, Gingrich voiced a moderate approach to illegal immigration saying he would not remove all illegal immigrants that are currently in the country.
I do not believe that the people of the United States are going to take people who have been here a quarter century, who have children and grandchildren, who are members of the community, who may have done something 25 years ago, separate them from their families, and expel them, Gingrich said last Tuesday.
Santorum told the Nashua paper, the principal thing we need to accomplish is securing the border.
I think amnestyand do I believe what Newt is suggesting is amnesty?

Santorum speaks the truth in this regard and more power to him.
So what is Santorum’s “Plan”?
Deport all 12 million illegal aliens?
If not, then by his own definition Santorum is in favor of “Amnesty”.
Sounds like a good plan to me. You won’t actually have to deport all 12 million. All you have to do is cut off the gubmint $$$ spigot and implement e-verify nationwide. 95% of them will self deport.
We don’t need to spend money and deport the 10 to 12 million illegal aliens in this country.
If just enforce the laws of this nation, punish people and businesses who employ them, cut off all government services to these illegal aliens (welfare, health care, education etc.), they will have no way to survive here and will self deport.
I think his plan is to attempt to deport 20+ million of them, then he will start working on your pets. How many of them do you wish to give amnesty to?///?????
By your definition everyone in the US is for amnesty...
Yep, doing all we can to get them to self deport IS the answer!
95% of them have children who are American Citizens. Unless we cut off the spigot to all American children, they are still going to get the benefits. The benefits go to their children.
I want to know if there is any candidate who is on record as saying that every illegal alien must be deported. Not "self-deported", but physically put on a bus to Mexico or Peru and repatriated to their home country.
Anything less than that is "amnesty". At least according to Santorum's definition.
How inhumane of him.
Yes, I am truly offfffended /sarc
I once supported Santorum - even sent his campaign a contribution. But with his unrelenting attack on fellow Republicans instead of going for Obama’s jugular, I have had it with him. He is a non-contender and now needs to drop out. All he is doing is weakening our field of candidates.
Here’s my idea, Santorum: present your ideas of government and contrast them against Obama’s. That, or drop out.
I agree on the attrition argument. Go to the 4:30 mark on this video from Monday and pay special attention to the comments starting at the 8:30 mark.
You don’t have to set through the whole thing and just dragging the icon across to the specific time will get you to those points quickly.

There are three more from this town hall and the fourth is very interesting. Freepmail me and I’ll send the other links if you want to hear more.
If people take a look at his positions, you’ll find that Rick is right on more issues than any of the candidates out there right now.
He certainly is a lot better than Jon Huntsman or Ron Paul or Mitt Romney etc, I will give you that!
Here's a post that I just read that I find to the point, and has made me realize the reality that we're now facing.
2) We do not want Mitt Romney to be the one to try that, for he will fail miserably, or even if he wins we will just simply get "Obama Lite" for 4 years.
I agree that this seems to be the current "definition" of amnesty that is used by hard-shell conservatives.
If any candidate does NOT fully support a police state round up and immediate deportation of every single Hispanic not carrying papers absolutely proving birth and identity, then that Hispanic is immediately to be deported.
Any less than that is "amnesty".
I think these hard-shells should ask their candidate to demand the round-up begin within 90 days of taking office.
Otherwise, they believe in amnesty. Delay is amnesty.
