"I think the problem is that the poor children, keep in mind it's 42% of poor children who live at or near poverty, it's 25% in poverty. Our audience needs to keep that in mind." Cornel West said on MSNBC this afternoon. "Poor children need more than just a $1,000 for their family, they need a war against poverty to make it a major priority in the way which we have a priority for Afghanistan, and a priority to bail out banks, and a priority to defend corporate interests when it comes to environmental issues," West said about more and new entitlements for the poor. Professor West didn't just call for another war on poverty (the first war was fought by Lyndon B. Johnson), but went on to say that the push for more entitlements "is going to be fought in the streets." West showered the Occupy movement with praise for making people aware of the issue. "It's a major question of priorities here. That's why the Occupy movement is so important because some of this is going to be fought in the streets. Civil disobedience does make a difference," he said. "Corporate greed now is an issue everybody has got to talk about. Wealth inequality. Everybody must talk about it because of the Occupy movement," Mr. West concluded. "I think brother West, I think he does make a good point," Goldie Taylor said.

The question is how will our government and more importantly we as a people react?
I for one will not allow my family or property to be threatened by this scum who so desperately need government handouts to survive.
I have had to shoot trespassers on my property before, only this time I will not consider wounding as an alternative.
I think we as a country are in for some violent and bloody times in the future to be rid of the sixty years of liberal/communist indoctrination.
most people are too fat and lazy to get off their butts to even change the channel, you really think they are going to riot? that sounds too much like work.
Get familiar with your state law; not all are make-my-day (or technically, make-my-night) like Texas’. Killing an obstreperous protestor on your property might translate into a sacrifice your family would not want. Won’t do them much good if you’re in a Pennsylvania prison for a few decades.
As for Cornel: The poor of America are much richer than the poor of most other countries. It might suck to go to a dollar store with food stamps and you might wish you never had to darken their door again — but you will NOT starve. Some states will even give you a cell phone. In the meantime, get government’s and unions’ over-burdensome hands OFF of things that can generate more jobs.
That’s what commie-unity organizers are for, I thought.
If it comes to that they won’t be “protesters”. They’ll be criminals attempting to do you harm. There’s a big difference between protesters and rioters/looters.
Thanks Evergolightly.
We CAN win the War on Poverty and we CAN win the war in Vietnam, with just a SMALL TEMPORARY increase in income taxes!!!
YES, WE CAN!!!

Cornel must have lived in a hermetically sealed liberal bubble since early 1968.
Has it started yet? Somebody wake me up when it does.
Liberals: Poor people? Just give ‘em (other people’s)money...problem solved.
Actually giving the poor money is the worst thing we could do, it saps their dignity and weakens all the character traits that would enable them to escape poverty on their own.
If you dont have a shotgun, think seriously of adding one to your arsenal.
Evergolightly, you are a great American. I wish there were more like you.
Even the situation of robbers or thieves or destroyers of property (and sometimes even intruders bent on murder or mayhem) is treated differently by different states. It is always wise to know the applicable law. It is likely the criminal will, and can use that knowledge to bait you into something that will put you, rather than the criminal, in a compromising position.
No problemo.
Just let in another zillion Mehhiccans to take what jobs they DO have.
That’s absolutely true. But... If we actually reach the state being discussed - basically a total break down of society - the police and the courts will be the least of your concerns.
Corporate greed now is an issue everybody has got to talk about. Wealth inequality. Everybody must talk about it because of the Occupy movement,
Leftist and socialists looking for votes in every corner of the universe, NOW it is the envy voters they are after. All based we might add, on completely false premises.
Got any proof Cornel? Corporate Greed, “The People” own a piece of corporations Cornel and would be the 99% in my world. Those attempting to say otherwise are the enemy 1%.
As to wealth inequality. Lets call it what it really is, wealth disparity. It has always been, even Jesus knew the poor would always be with us, and “WE” are responsible, NOT government.
Lastly when it comes to folks who would remake America in the image of Karl Marx, I have to say, logic and reason aren’t the strong suits of such. In fact it is going to take the repeat of lessons that “normal” folks gather from history for your kind to understand reality, reason, rights, and remorse.
Wisconsin. Iowa State Fair. So caled OWS. Oakland. I think the left wing media, Soros and the unions are working up their zombies for a summer of riots and mob violence to derail the 2012 elections. They are playing with fire! Remember 1968. And be watchful....
Gosh! I just don’t know what to think about all of this. I thought our public schools (indoctrination centers) were preparing our fat spoiled children to enter the real world and become productive citizens.
Obama continually speaks of everyone now needing a college education but all I see is a world of PHD hamburger flippers.
Aside from the sarcasm, let them riot for the armed revolution of true Americans is simmering under the surface in the last throes of freedom that we have left.
Unless you are 65 or older, you really can’t imagine what the old America was and the freedoms we had back then. Now, most have been stripped away through Political Correctness and a never ending sea of regulations and stupid laws.
It’s coming...as sure as the sun rises in the morning...the revolt of true Americans.
We have been, in effect, paying the institutional poor not to be violent. This hasn't worked very well yet liverals/leftists like Dr. West want the working to pay more for the nonworking.
This can't end well.
