Super Committee: Success or Failure?
American Thinker ^ | November 29, 2011 | Frank Ryan

In the Budget Control Act of 2011, Congress created the Super Committee. The Super Committee, technically called the "Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction," was chartered with the responsibility to "reduce the deficit by at least $1,500,000,000,000 over the period of fiscal years 2012 to 2021."

In the attempt to force a compromise on deficit reduction, the House and Senate decided to mandate specific cuts in defense and domestic programs to include Medicare, should the Super Committee not solve the deficit reduction problem. The total reduction spending cuts under various assumptions in the...

--snip--

Whenever two or more groups have completely disparate belief systems, perhaps compromise is not wise. There may need to be a "winner" and a "loser."

Unfortunately, the Super Committee was tasked with the impossible because a battle of ideals cannot be resolved by a committee. It must be resolved by the will of the people. A solution by the Super Committee would have been the true failure. A compromise when belief systems are so entirely different must be resolved differently.

As difficult as it may be accept, it may be much better for our nation to experience financial failure than to prolong the agony by avoiding a decision as to what type of nation we wish to be.

Our Founding Fathers developed a nation where we have the "right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness." Perhaps our citizens no longer feel the way our founders did.

The debt, government spending, and taxes are not the arguments. They are the symptoms.

At stake is what we as a people believe to be the best way to govern: allow individual determination, or rely on government to solve our problems? This is the argument which must be settled. A compromise may not be possible or even desirable...

How about un-Constitutional. This super committee / super Congress goes against the Constitution.

Well, as I believe the so-called “supercommittee” was intended to fail by design, I’d say it was a smashing success. Obama wanted a dog-and-pony show to make it look like he tried to get something done, and to give him a campaign issue against Republicans in 2012. There was no other intended purpose on the Democratic side for the SupeCom.

It did exactly what the frauds wanted. More smoke and mirrors for consumption by the unwashed. They hope to avoid the inevitable reckoning which is coming, but Truth will out.

You beat me to it...

Once the regime got the Republicans to cave to the 2 trillion dollars to spend till the next election in 2012, it was over...

There was no reason for the democrats (in congress or the committee) to do anything but hunker down and let the MSM do the dirty work for them in the interim...

Why the Republicans (and the party leadership) didn’t see this is an extreme failure on their part...And until they stop fiddle fartin’ around with these liberals it will never change...

The change we need to do is make sweeping changes in those up there right now...

I don’t care if we send rookies up there to handle this situation...Obviously, the argument (will be) is that if we send people up there who may, or may not know how things work up there is a moot point...

The way things work up there is a failure (and continuing to grow) to begin with, so it is no great loss of continuity if we fire the whole bunch as far as I am concerned...

If supporters of a conservative agenda cannot rely upon the “generally right-leaning” party of choice to vett out and present a conservative candidate or elected official to us to support, that will be the Republican Party leaderships’ fault...

We need to make a decision, do we continue to allow a moderation of our representation to take place, or do we reject and send the message that it is time for a (just s smidge, which is more than I’ve seen in quite some time) of political courage and non-apologetic conservative stand(s) in our elected officials??? At ALL levels???

2012 should obviously be a banner year for the Republican Party, but what are we really going to get???

It’s never been a perfect situation, and it is unrealistic to expect it to have been, but to have a feckless caste of characters say one thing and then do another...Well, the old addage that that is just politics is not going to fly in my book anymore...

Just my opinion...

It failed — therefore a success!
