Last summer, when all of the pundits had pretty much written off Newt Gingrichs presidential candidacy, my niece, a college sophomore whom I always believed to be apolitical, remarked, My friends and I like Newt he tweets a lot on Twitter.
I should have remembered that.
Two years earlier, I had heard Gingrich speak at the National Rural Health Associations Annual Conference. At the beginning of his remarks, he took out his new mobile phone, and thus began a 30 minute dissertation on social media as the new paradigm in communications, and challenged us all to learn it, understand it and implement it.
Gingrich, ever the student of history, grasped early on the significance of President Obamas use of social media as an effective tool for communications in the 2008 campaign.
Unlike Obama, Gingrich has had scarce resources and hasnt had a cadre of aides, handlers and public relation firms to devise his social media campaign strategy. Instead, the 68 year-old former Speaker of the House from Georgia, whose campaign up until now has been just about a "one man band," learned everything he could about social media and how to effectively employ it. As a result, he is now the one Republican presidential candidate who has mastered its use, and the results speak for themselves.
Today, Gingrich has over 1.3 million followers on Twitter. His nearest rivals, Mitt Romney and Herman Cain, have roughly 170,000 each, followed by

Check out INTRADE..Newt’s really making a move...
Young people have been known to be wrong on occaision. ;-)
Newt the next Obama-like campus phenom?
Maybe because he does not speak in that Polished Bull$hit they hear coming out of Romney
(Come to think of it, that is what every candidate who rose to the top before being slimed by the media has in common)
Maybe because he has solutions. Let’s see what the polls say.
So you're saying he speaks in Rough Bull$hit?
Would it be so REALLY bad to have Pres. Gingrich ?
Yeah ... I know ... the various stances he's had in the past and recent utterings.
(Come to think of it, that is what every candidate who rose to the top before being slimed by the media has in common)
I love Herman Cain, and will be happy to vote for him if he gets the nomination, but even his supporters must admit that he is a world-class BS artist. That's not necessarily the worst thing to be in the business world.
As my dad used to say, “Bosh!” Here is what I posted regarding Nut Grinch followers yesterday:
Nut Grinchs surge is due to a major push by the Establishment, and to many new young voters who think that fast talk is cool.
They dont know a thing about the Grinch! They dont know that he is part of that establishment. Of course they probably dont even know what the establishment is! They dont know that he is barely over the acceptable line of being called a Re[publican. He is certainly NO CONSERVATIVE. But then many of those new voters probably dont even know what a conservative is!
My thumbnail definition: A conservative is one who wants to PRESERVE the things which made our country so great: The Constitution, the Bill of Rights, The Declaration of Independence. The free market, the middle class, and the opportunity to improve ones situation in life.
This is possibly our last chance to vote a true conservative into the White House. And he is NOT Gingrich or Romney. They are both RINOs of the first water!
If big labor likes him, and Obama’s media likes him, and Bill Clinton likes him, ask yourself why.
All hype a yard wide and paper thin. Newt = Amnesty
I don't "love" Herman Cain, although I am a strong supporter who does not believe he is a "world class" or any class of BS artist. I think Cain is the most "straight shooting" candidate running.
The social experiment is kind of interesting when you remember that most of these younger people were not exposed to the campaign of lies against Gingrich that the media printed in the late 90’s. They are looking at him with a different set of eyes, and they like what they see.
My friends and I like Newt he tweets a lot on Twitter.
Wow, the youngins are so amped about Newt.
No chance they can even READ about his history./s
If Newt can jumpstart the economy, for the most part, I’d give him a pass, but geez, still not happy....
The term "amnesty" is in grave danger of being overused to the point where it has no meaning on this website. In the past, liberals have succeeding in doing this with serious terms like "racism" and "nazi. Dictionary definitions of the word "amnesty" don't apply in American politics, just as the words "democrat" and "republican" no longer reflect the goals of the two parties named after them. None of these definitions include the word "citizenship," which is the implied injustice that most opponents have a problem with. The term "amnesty" in our legal system usually implies a "one time only" forgiveness of sins, such as a tax amnesty. That's not what Gingrich is proposing.
Gingrich's solution would seal the border, deport criminals, facilitate the integration of highly skilled professionals, and define litmus tests for those seeking legality. These tests include ALL of the following: a criminal background check, community ties, proficiency in the English language, and an ability to support oneself via employment without the assistance of Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and other entitlement programs. Applicants who meet these qualifications will have to pay a penalty of at least $5,000 and have to prove on a regular basis that they can support themselves without entitlement programs and pay for health insurance or be deported. Most importantly, these people would not be granted citizenship (and the right to vote that comes with it). The only path to citizenship to be granted would be for those who did not come here themselves, but were brought here at a young age by their parents. Those people could obtain citizenship in return for a period of military service.
What you are doing here is attacking a sensible vivification with buzzwords. It is a favorite tactic of liberal politics, and it is the primary reason why we have been unable to reform entitlements like Social Security after fifty years of knocking our heads against the wall.
Instead of attacking Gingrich, you should be talking up your preferred candidate, and the strategy he or she is proposing. I won't hold my breath though.
I think that’s a valid point.
After their brainless voting for OBAMA. I would hardly give them much credit for THINKING.
Ignorance?
OK, here's your chance to hit them up to it. They're into the net these days, or so I'm told. What's Newt's "history?"
