Barney won 54% of the vote, I wouldn’t call that “won handily” for a longtime incombinent. His district was re-drawn, losing New Bedford and Fall River that doesn’t help him.
Market Watch has published a glowing piece on Frank’s decision, peppered with comments about how Frank had to face Republican opposition to his “reform” efforts after the financial crisis of 2008. Unmentioned in the article is Frank’s role in bringing about the financial crisis which continues to threaten the entire U.S. economy. The worst despots of history had no better propaganda arms than today’s Democrat/Socialist media. Frank was implored. by the Bush administration (read the Wall St Journal editorials, for example) long before 2008 to do his job in watching over the GSE’s which were driving the U.S. financial industry toward a cliff. Those GSE’s were big donors to his party.
Frank was a key player in the 2008 financial crisis. It is propaganda that got him reelected and continues to try to paint him as a good guy. Every American facing unemployment or experiencing the loss of 401k savings must remember Frank as the point man for their suffering.
You may be right about his concerns regarding reelection, but his district is of a character to elect someone even worse. I don’t see them electing someone wise and a good citizen interested in the good of his constituents—more likely to pick someone with V. Lenin’s ideology and a public image best suited to a Believe-It-Or-Not sideshow at the carnival.
Rats fleeing a sinking ship. Let’s hope aids gets him.
Surprisingly (I guess), when he got out, he said nothing, remained democrat and disappeared.
Good points; Bos. Globe article Drudge linked to mentions that the re-districting was a big part and yes maybe 54 per cent wasn’t “handily”. I think he may have won 70-30 the
election before.
Globe piece also says he may go into teaching (or academia
as WHDH-TV put it). Hmm...Barney’s morals guiding those
young minds...
From what I've read, Barney is, um, more of the passive type. A do-ee, not a doer, if you will.
I think you’re right. His cardinal sin was being pro-America and fairly conservative for a Democrat. Frank is a different story. But, if the Dems lose power on both sides of the aisle and in the executive office, Bawney won’t be happy, that’s for sure. I figure he’ll retire to some swanky digs with his stable of, er, concubines.
Spell check! ;o)
THEN the difficulty will be making sure the R's we elect actually stay an R.
I agree with you that lawn signs don’t vote but there used to be a time when only the brave would put a GOP lawn sign in their yard here in Massachusetts. The fact that so many people have Republican lawn signs in their yards around here is an indicator of shifting voting trends. Hopefully it will start making an impact in the voting booths.
Agreed!
btw, this posting of the “Barney Frank Farts on Live TV”

...had a great comment: He’s the TOOT FAIRY!
He must have heard about the indictments coming down the pike.
I agree with both of you. I've never heard of a Democrat willingly retire from Congress. Something's up.
That's one of my favorite songs from Rush! I hope Rush will play it today in honor of Barney's announcement.
That is good, consider it snagged. :P
Sickness abounds.
He should be in jail with some guy named Mongo.
