Not seen on the USA Weekend Website is the cover art for the print edition that features the Obama family in a Norman Rockwell inspired painting.
Based on Rockwell's 1943 "Freedom From Want" which features a boisterous multi-generational family gathered at a home dining room table as the man and woman of the house present the Thanksgiving turkey,
the USA Weekend version has Barack Obama, wearing a suit and tie, standing at the head of the table with wife Michelle (wearing an apron) at his side presenting the turkey. In contrast to the Rockwell painting which has the turkey being presented to the family at the table, the Obama turkey is shown in a manner so as to be perceived as being presented to the nation.
Seated at the table on one side are daughters Malia and Sasha, with the family dog Bo. Michelle's mother Marion Robinson and an unidentifiable person (seen only from the eyes up with a skintight salt-and-pepper haircut) are seated on the other side. All are smiling broadly and are looking directly in the eyes of the observer.
Inside is two pages of a 'family holiday letter' in which Obama brags about all the cool things he and his family got to do this year, accompanied by a page of 14 family photos.
Unlike Obama's official Thanksgiving message, his holiday letter actually mentions a higher being. But only in his retelling of the family trip to South America where the girls were awed by the Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro.

YES....I opened the newspaper....(we occasionally buy on Sunday the local rag) and FOUND THIS ...... and just about puked.
On Thursday I gave thanks that this time next year would be his last Thanksgiving in the WH.

Sorry, but that's not true. No matter what happens next November, Obama will be in the White House for the 2012 Thanksgiving. But I get your drift.

From my family to yours, I’d like to wish you a happy Thanksgiving! Like millions of Americans, Michelle, Malia, Sasha and I will spend the day eating great food, watching a little football, and reflecting on how grateful we are that my administration’s policies are beginning to take effect.
We are especially thankful for your support that has made our achievements possible.
But, there are many other blessings we share today.
We’re grateful that men and women defending our country overseas can now freely love others of the same sex without fear of court-marshal thanks to my policy changes. To all the gay service members eating Thanksgiving dinner far from others in the GLBT community let me say: the American people are thinking of you. And you can be sure that when you come home, we intend to host in your honor the biggest Pride Parade that we can.
We’re also grateful for the Americans who are taking time out of their holiday to gather in tents on the cold streets of our major cities expressing their First Amendment rights to protest the exploitation of the top one percent of wealth hoarders. It brings tears to my eyes to know that someone is sticking up for the little guys out there being crushed by the powers of capitalism. The Occupy Wall Street patriots dare to stand up for the dream of income equality for all! We can be thankful that my administration is setting the course to transfer more wealth from those with too much in our society to those who are needy, poor and marginalized.
The very first Thanksgiving was a celebration of socialist community during a time of great hardship, and we have followed that example ever since. Even when the fate of our union was uncertain – during a Civil War, two World Wars, a Great Depression – the Stonewall riots — the Carter Administration — Woodstock — Americans drew strength from each other. They had revolutionary faith that demanding rights through class struggle will truly yield a tomorrow that is better than today.
As we gather around the table, we pause to remember the socialist pilgrims, gay rights pioneers, and feminists patriots who gave us the grand vision that this country might be great one day. Now it’s our turn to mount up against the capitalist oppressors, racist cabals and out of control bankers who are trying to hold us down. Today we are thankful for worker unity! We know that the forces of greed will not prevail against the onslaught of the people!
I know that with 9.2 percent unemployment, high food and gas prices, record low economic indicators across the board, this Thanksgiving is more difficult than most. But no matter how tough things are, we still take comfort in being able to argue that the problems we face didn’t develop overnight, and we won’t solve them overnight. We can still blame the other party and those who led it during the backward Bush years for getting us into this mess! For that I am truly thankful.
So today, I’m thankful to my supporters and generous donors who make it possible for me to serve as President and Commander-and-Chief. I am profoundly grateful to have had this chance the last three years to travel the world apologizing for America’s wrongs and to stand up for hope and change. I’m thankful that my daughters will get a chance to grow up in a country that is steadily being transformed into a place we can all be proud of soon.
