Under prison rules, sick inmates who attend "offender behaviour programmes" get wages the same as if they have a job in jail.
They can even pick up the cash by NOT attending the sessions — if they show they were willing to go but there were no spaces available.
Last night Lyn Costello, of campaigning group Mothers Against Murder and Aggression, said: "This is outrageous. Offenders should be MADE to go on these courses to address their behaviour. If they don't they shouldn't be let out.
"It is a disgusting use of taxpayers' money and the public should be outraged."
A spokesman for the TaxPayers' Alliance said: "It's disgusting. Rehabilitation should be a compulsory part of sentences, not an optional extra inmates are bribed to attend."
Prisoners pocket around £8 per week in pay. Last year that cost the Ministry of Justice £35.6million. They also get sick pay if they are not well enough to work and unemployment pay if there are no jobs or courses available.
Jail rules state: "Prisoners who are employed in work, induction, education, training or offending behaviour programmes will receive at least the minimum weekly rate of pay for employed prisoners."
The Prison Service said: "It is crucial that we encourage prisoners to take part in these courses. They address prisoners' behaviour and ultimately this helps to reduce re-offending."
Conservative MP Priti Patel said: "This is an example of the benefits system gone mad."

So the British taxpayer, after being subjected to unspeakable, life-destroying evils from pedophiles send the offenders at great expense to prison where further tax money is wasted on rehab programs that generally don't work on this particular brand of scum. Even more money is then spent 'bribing' them to take these court-mandated courses.
One naturally wonders if this sort of thing is also going on here in the USA.
