A South Carolina cancer center that gave Santa Claus the boot has reversed its decision, but said they will ban any Christmas decorations that are religious in nature - including the Nativity.
The Hollings Cancer Center in Charleston, SC, created a firestorm of yuletide controversy after they told a volunteer that he would not be allowed to dress up as Santa Claus, according to FoxNews.
Their Santa ban lasted about two days before they reversed course.
"Perhaps we stumbled here," Hollings spokeswoman Vicky Agnew said. "We are very well aware that Santa is not a religious figure, but we are a state institution and we wanted to tone down the overt commercial and any religious aspects to it."
Did you catch that? A cancer treatment center wants to "tone down" any religious aspects of Christmas!
So Santa gets a reprieve - but religious-themed Christmas decorations do not.
"That still stands," Agnew said. "We've got a diverse population here and a lot of folks celebrate the season differently or don't celebrate it."
Hollings will not allow any religious symbols - at all.
"No Nativity scenes," Agnew said.

...but Christmas ***IS*** a religious holiday....
***
Only sometimes, and only for Christians.
For the rest of them, not so much.
Bringing this up to date it should read: PC Goals of the Leftist Loons .
27. Infiltrate the churches and replace revealed religion with "social" religion. Discredit the Bible and emphasize the need for intellectual maturity which does not need a "religious crutch."
28. Eliminate prayer or any phase of religious expression in the schools on the ground that it violates the principle of "separation of church and state."
31. Belittle all forms of American culture and discourage the teaching of American history on the ground that it was only a minor part of the "big picture...."
While your at it look at the other goals and see how many have taken place in the U.S since this came out nearly 50 years ago.
>>we wanted to tone down the overt commercial and any religious aspects to it.”
Without the religious aspect, Christmas is just a “shopping season”.
Then take away the commercial aspect and it is just another federal holiday that has no meaning, like MLK Day.
Banning Christ from Christmas is weird.
Yea something stinks real bad here. Most doctors consider a persons faith in GOD to be very important in healing. But it seems the center was named after an arch liberal who worshiped the powers of government more than realizing our Constitution allows one to freely worship. Sad really sad.
If the Christian families that use the cancer center could afford to switch to another one, or at least threaten to, they should do it in a heartbeat. The nativity would go up next week. If I had cancer I would seek out a Catholic cancer treating hospital, personally.
I was in an ER once, again at a Catholic hospital because I am Catholic, and a man in the next room was going crazy — huge guy in some sort of frenzy. He suddenly stopped freaking out when he saw Jesus on the wall and said if this place is ok with him it's ok with me and he stopped long enough for them to be able to sedate him. So Jesus can work in hospitals in real time— I saw it happen!

Did “Fritz” Hollings tell them to do this? People in SC still have a soft spot for Fritz.
MLK Day is a big day in SC and the whole country. For many liberals, it is the biggest day of the year.
Not that I'm aware of but what does that have to do with it?
And you changed the wording of the 1st Amendment why?
Gee, I bought a Christmas gift for a Jewish woman after having pulled her name out of a bag for a secret Santa. Her comment on the gift was, "Look at this, someone knows me really well!" She didn't look like she was the slightest bit offended.
I didn’t say that it wasn’t big. I said that it was meaningless. Civil rights started before MLK became famous. According to progressives, the issue still isn’t settled because the world isn’t “fair” enough. It would be like using the date of the Battle of Midway as the day we commemorate winning WW2.
people do realize that Santa Claus is roughly based on the character of St. Nicholas don’t they?....
“Congress shall make no law governing the establishment of religion OR PROHIBITING THE FREE EXERCISE THEREOF.”
That’s a phrase out of the 1st Amendment - verbatim I believe.
What’s YOUR problem? An atheist?
O.K. I missed a word.
Its “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;”
Happy?
