Penn State Scandal: Mother Of Alleged Jerry Sandusky Victim Claims Mistreatment By Son's School
Ryan Buell via HP ^ | 11/23/11 | Ryan Buell

Court records refer to him simply, as Victim One. Outside of a four-and-a-half page section about him in the grand jury indictment of ex-Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky, little else has been discussed about him publicly.

Last week, his mother (whom I will refer to as "Mother One") removed him from Central Mountain High School in Mill Hall, Pa., where he was a senior and an all-star athlete. In an interview conducted last week, she explained why she pulled him from the school.

"They were not helpful," Mother One said of the school's administrators. "They wanted me to go home and forget about it."

Mother One also alleges that since the Sandusky scandal erupted, fellow students and the high school's football coach (who also serves as assistant principal) have all targeted her son with verbal attacks and threats of violence.

She also claims that the school's principal tried to convince her and her son not to report their allegations against Sandusky to the police, and that as recently as this month, refused to treat threats of violence against her son by other students as credible.

Central Mountain High's principal, Karen Probst, and its football coach, Steve Turchetta, did not return phone calls seeking comment about Mother One's complaints.

“...which will also keep the lawyers from their usual 40% cut.”

As a bookkeeper for a law firm let me just state that lawyers get paid even when cases are “settled” before trial, most civil cases end this way, very few go to trial. If Sandusky is convicted, or pleads guilty, Penn State and Second Mile and any School involved better get out their checkbooks. Sandusky probably has no money, so they’ll be the deep pockets and my guess is they’ll pay up pdq.

Also, atty’s fees are 1/3 not 40% and they are less on big judgements and worker’s comp cases. Now if this is construed as some kind of violation of civil rights those cases can have strange fee structures, but I’m not sure if it would fit in that category. Also exps come off the top and that can increase the payment to the lawyer, but that is money that the lawyer has actually spent on experts or investigation or court reporters for transcripts, etc.

Now, what I was originally going to say about this thread, I just can’t get past the part where the school let a minor child leave the building without the parent’s knowledge or permission.

Forget everything else, suppose there had been a car accident and the kid had been injured or killed? Suppose something happened in the kid’s family and the mother needed to get in touch with the son right away?

Can you imagine going to a school to see your child and being told “he’s not here, he’s out with Couch Sandusky”? I’d say the school has big liability just for that and I hope they get their pants sued off. I would definitely name the principal, etc. personally. That probably wouldn’t stand, but I’d do it anyway.

My intent is not to get into a discussion about the merits and/or abuses of trial lawyers..I understand that you work for a law firm, but surely you would not disagree that the system had been abused egregiously, and also that the trial alwyers lobby is in bed with the Dem party.

You correctly point out that Sandusky has no major assets, and I suspect neither does Paterno. He's worked for much less than comparable coaches get, for years, and he has given away millions. Penn State has the deep pockets..and once all the victims have been identified, AND TO AVOID A TRIAL, the university could offer up a sum for the victims, and the court could allocate the funds, and the lawyers' fees..which would be far less than they usually get, and thus, far more to the victims..

This would be to everyone's benefit, except the plaintiff's attys..

Well I can state clearly that the writer of this article is an outstanding person IMO. He is a former Penn State student and has been one of the leading voices for standing up for the victims instead of crying over Paterno and the rest of the enablers. Unlike, the loon students who rioted when Paterno was fired. (He's lucky he's not in jail!!!)

From what I have heard the phones for the high school and the school district board have been disconnected and the emails were changed, so when there is smoke there is fire.

A few weeks ago we heard rumors of Sandusky "pimping boys to donors". Now with this story I have no doubt in my mind the High School not only knew but were complicit in the cover up and allowed Sandusky to prowl the halls looking for more boys to molest / rape. He should be dead already, this story continues to make me sicker by the second.

This makes me wonder where else this is happening in our failed public schools..Have pedophiles learned that this is the best place to find victims? This is our government in action, folks..These government bureaucrats (football coach, principal, counselor), found guilty (you know the system of justice is perverse, too, don't you?), do need to be put away for life..One life is too much to waste on the perverted passions and the evil heart of a pedophile.

I hate to be using such a common used phrase but once again this is "Fox in the hen house". Pedophiles positions themselves in places where they will interact with children. At my Junior High School years after I graduated a teacher who I suspected was gay by his mannerisms was busted for trying to pick up at 14 year old boy on the Internet. The Catholic Priest scandal, access to boys. Sandusky access to boys through his "charity" and his prowling around schools.

These pedophiles are thinking everything out. They aren't your typical sex offender like a rapist randomly grabbing someone off the street. They literally take their time so they can brainwash and ultimately gain enough power over the victim to the point where they can threaten the victim to do whatever they want.

And the saddest part of this, "The Second Mile" was to help troubled children, a lot of kids are screwed up growing up in a single family home. A lot of friends I knew who grew up without a father as a role model turned to drugs or alcohol at a very young age, making them extremely vulnerable.

In NBC's "To Catch A Predator" pedophiles are often seen bringing booze to the victim's home. Alcohol in children will make them ten times more vulnerable. Then the pedophile uses threats such as "I'll kill your entire family."

Simple answer to these sickos is execution no appeal...

Like I said earlier this is the tip of the iceberg. First the Grand Jury report, then we hear about Sandusky pimping out boys to donors, now a High School willingly let this man take boys off school grounds without parental consent?

In High School we had to get permission slips in order to watch the film version of "Romeo and Juliet" because there is a scene where breasts are seen.

And EVERY Field Trip from Grade School - High School required a permission slip signed by the parents. This is the same standard that my church uses for various trips. We also run extensive back up checks on people applying to be Sunday School Teachers or Mentors in our Junior High Youth / Confirmation Program and Senior High Mentoring Program. This involves checking the National Sex Registry and Police records.

This is in corrupt Illinois!!! You'd think that there would be some sense of dignity in Pennsylvania, but as other FReepers have pointed out, Football has been placed on a pedestal in this town and the surrounding area.

Yes because adolescent anal rape leads to speech codes.

The same way worn windshield wiper blades can lead to a faulty transmission, just like your mechanic told you.

“And EVERY Field Trip from Grade School - High School required a permission slip signed by the parents.”

Yes. that has certainly been my experience as both a child and adult. And, for me that was in corrupt NYC and NJ. I just can’t get my mind around a school letting a non-parent/guardian take a schoolchild off the premises. Ever.

every day there are girls signing out of schools so they can go to their local “clinic” for appointments regarding contraception and “other services.”

This is often done with a wink and a nod from certain adults at the school.

The rationale used is that the girls have a right to “privacy” - so parents are often completely left out of the loop.

I’m siding with mom too, however, when she starts with the talk about having to sleep on couches instead of beds, etc....
She’s risking her credibility.

At a point it appears she’s milking it.
I can’t blame her for wanting to put the screws to these jerks, but she’ll wind up hurting her son’s case if she overdoes it.

“every day there are girls signing out of schools so they can go to their local “clinic”...”

I didn’t even think about that. Of course, that is a complete disgrace.

I’d like to think there’d be a silver lining to this Sandusky mess, that it would lead to a liberal crack-up over homosexuality, etc.

But I don’t think that’s gonna happen.

I’ve read many of the posts concerning homosexuality.

The problem with that thinking as it relates to this case is....he presented himself as a heterosexual, married, philanthropist.

He pulled this off so well that the high school staff simply couldn’t not believe the boy.

The problem with these people is they are sneaky. They usually are smart and very manipulative. They make you question whether you are overreacting.

I remember when I used to coach a girls sport, and I noticed a “sweet old man” kept showing up at competitions and even practices with his camera. He had a plastic id badge hanging around his neck so I assumed he worked for some local paper.

One day he boldly waltzed right into practice and started snapping pictures. I was uncomfortable with the way he was pointing the camera at these very young girls - the angles.
So I started asking him questions.
What paper do you work for? oh, he didn’t work for a paper, this was his hobby. Would I like copies?
“Why do wear that badge around your neck?”....uncomfortable long pause...no answer.
So I kick the guy out. You would have thought I had clubbed a baby seal to death.
My boss asked me - why was I so mean to sweet old man?

I recently learned this sweet old man has orders of protection against him from showing up at local athletic events.

As far as kids leaving school? The rule should be an easy one....the kids don’t leave campus without parents’ knowledge and permission. Period.
But....school officials often think they know better, so black and white becomes gray, and then there exceptions to the rule, etc.....

Intresting story, you did the right thing. That was very sneaky of him to wear a fake badge.

I guess the point being....”sneaky” is their default setting.

Looking for the “homosexual” isn’t going to solve the problem.

Sandusky didn’t prance around wearing a rainbow pin on his collar.

God bless you and heal you completely from your betrayal and abuse. Thank you for your testimony. It’s time people started believing that this evil destroys so very much. May the Holy Spirit never stop His good works in you.

That poor child, being caught in the middle of such a horrible situation.

Say a prayer for everyone involved, especially those poor little children who were terrorized by that monster.

Any adult who preys on children like that is no better than a dog, and we ought to lock them up in the deepest dungeon we have and throw away the key.

If I was King of the World, I’d build a dungeon deep underground, where pedophiles and child rapists would crouch in little cells that were just barely wide enough to stand comfortably in. I’d lock up every single sick bastard who got his rocks off on little kids or helpless women and never let them see the light of day again.

Sandusky, for the love of God, do the decent thing and put yourself out of your misery. It’s high past time to fall on your sword.

I hope every one of those kids gets free tuition for life at any college in the state of Pennsylvania. Any kids that got touched by that coach in Syracuse, too. Hell, free college anywhere in the world on the state’s dime would be more appropriate. And a lifetime of therapy, they’re going to need it.

Why are people so cruel?
