LOS ANGELES (AP) There were many missed opportunities to prevent the murder of a 15-year-old gay student at E.O. Green Junior High School in Oxnard.
Teachers and students saw a simmering feud between Brandon McInerney and Larry King but said they were either ignored by administrators or did little or nothing to intervene. King's mother said she pleaded with school officials to help tone down her son's increasingly flamboyant behavior. One teacher encouraged King to explore his sexuality and gave him a dress.
Nearly four years after McInerney, then 14, shot King in the head before stunned classmates, plenty of questions remain about what went wrong and what can be learned to prevent future tragedies.
King's death illustrates the difficulty schools have balancing a gay student's civil rights with teaching tolerance to those who feel threatened by or uncomfortable about someone who's different. It also highlighted the importance of setting clear policies to eliminate confusion among educators.
. . .
King's mother, Dawn King, said she met with school officials four days before the February 2008 shooting hoping they would help tone down her son's behavior. She said she was told King had a civil right to explore his sexual identity.
. . .
A bill introduced by Rep. Jared Polis, D-Colo., is pending before the House Education and Workforce Committee that would prohibit discrimination in public schools against lesbian and gay students.
If passed, violating the Student Non-Discrimination Act could lead to districts losing federal funding. Polis said he had King and other teens like him in mind when he wrote the bill.

The school knew all about it. The other kids were told they had to tolerate King’s insanity.

Yet another article about the kid murdered in school by another kid. Many excellent comments on the thread with more info. Note haroldeveryman's comment about a TV show he saw recently. Parents!!! Don't let you kids watch stuff which ruins their innocence! Children which includes teenagers are very, VERY influenced by what they see, hear, read and are taught in school and by the media. Protect them until they are old enough to have good strong morality internalized. Schools are basically in many places homosexual recruitment centers.
That is precisely the point here. And it's not simply an opinion. The school, of course, denies responsibility, but the system has already been made to pay some money:
King's family has settled a wrongful death lawsuit against the school district, McInerney, a gay rights organization, a shelter and others. The suit claimed that everyone from King's teacher to his social worker failed to urge the effeminate teen to tone down flamboyant behavior.
Why in the world is the perp's grandfather's insurance company paying for this????
Morale will crash, and many of our best troops will leave the service.
Makes me ill.
“She said she was told King had a civil right to explore his sexual identity.”
Can every child molester and rapist use this logic? All they need do. Is chant they were born that way. It happens in nature! Or older civilizations did it. Why not now?
Lets face it. The perverted homosexual state of CA screwed this kid over. You cannot appeal a plea deal. Outside of the perverted homosexual state of CA. This kid may of had a chance at winning an appeal. Face the facts. The school failed to protect this heterosexual. From a perverted homosexual predator. The school stated. The perverted homosexual had a right to explore his or its sexuality. Which in this case. Was to sexual harass a another student student. A crime!
The world is upside down. Here’s who’s to blame:
The American Psychological Association leadership in allowing the organization to be taken over by a couple of the organizations leaders who couldn’t stand that there was a stigma to their homosexual behavior.
The teaching profession for buying the homosexual agenda hook, line and sinker.
The school administration and teachers at this school creating an insane environment that called white black and black white. Any kid raised with morality would be driven nuts by the fun house distortions of reality that confronted him daily.
Thanks for the correction. What a FUBAR situation.
“The school administration and teachers at this school “
Failed to prevent a perverted homosexual predator from sexually harassing a normal student. The heterosexual student has grounds to sue the school for this failure!
“Allen Gregory” Sunday night, 8:30 Fox in my area:
Here’s a site with 4 episodes, including the one about the gay dance. I just caught the last 5 minutes or so of the one I mentioned, so judge for yourselves.

.
Why are they still talking about this?
I bet dollars to donuts that it was one of the shows on FOX, since they’re the only broadcast network that has adult animation on Sunday night; either the Simpsons, Family Guy, American Dad, the Cleveland Show, or that new Gregory show they just released.
Why talk about it? The article itself tells you—at the very end—as I said in post #1. The Dems now want to compel all schools to do exactly what Larry King’s school did: affirm the kind of behavior that provoked a violent attack against him.
Gotcha! They want to talk about it for completely different, diametrically opposed reasons from those conservatives want to talk about: to get political policy in place. Yes, I agree - the incessant talk about “bullying” is ramped up, exaggerated, misapplied, and beaten into the public and public officials in an effort to promote homo-friendly laws. But we do need to expose these Trojan Horses for what they are.

Someone who is merely defending himself (McInerney) is not a "perp". The perp ended up in a body bag.
I accept your correction. You are correct.
Why is the defendant’s grandfather’s insurance company paying for it?
