Occupy Wall Street has now dragged into its third month. What should be a matter of enforcing existing laws has turned into an intractable political problem.
But we should look to the federal government and its illustrious current and former leadership for inspiration on how to handle such situations. They have plenty of experience in not enforcing existing laws and then proposing ways to deal with that lack of enforcement.
It's just plain inhumane to tear down the OWS encampments in the bitter cold of November just because they are occupying public spaces and causing noise and sanitation problems. Some of those tents might have kids in them.
It's inhumane to load the OWS protesters into paddy wagons and take them downtown to jail. No one should be calling for such forced removal in this country, and the public will never support such.
No, what we need is visionary leadership for this problem. We need a sense of humanity!
But not for all OWS protestors, mind you! Lawbreakers should still go to jail! If you are caught selling drugs or murdering someone, you should still face the music of the legal system. Likewise, if you have just joined in the protests, you should be removed - only those who have been there for over a month should be allowed to stay! We should not encourage more encampments by allowing all to stay - only those who have put down roots in their local parks.
But imagine the benefits of such a humane approach - if conservatives come out in support of such a proposal, the GOP might win over those who are sympathetic to OWS's viewpoints. Plus, no more videos of pepper-sprayed protestors. Less police overtime. So what if those who live by the encampments have to deal with them? It's the price of tolerance.
I submit, if humanity is good enough for illegals, it's good enough for OWS. The solution to failure is never to correct the reason for the failure. It's the DC way.
I favor releasing feral pittbulls on them.
Send in Newt. He can be their amnesty shill.
We ought to at least provide free food and education for the occupiers that need it.
That’s mighty inhumane of you. Don’t you know there is an election coming up and we might need the votes of those sympathetic to OWS to win the White House for the GOP?
Don’t forget the free medical care. They’re gonna need it.
Were it not cold, I favor tossing wasp nests.
WASP - that’s wacist!
That sure sounds like too many politicians’ immagration policy.
“The solution to failure is never to correct the reason for the failure. It’s the DC way.”
Your above line should be taught to all levels of students as the First Commandment of the Trough Feeders Manifesto.
It’s kinda scary when you think about it - that what I wrote as satire, can be found in spirit if not word in the utterances of so many politicians.
LOL! Good one.
I've started watching a Saturday night, grade z (the worst of the worst) "monster" tv program in the last few months.
I NEED pebbles that have had virgin blood dripped on them, that then grow to giant amoeba's ( I made that up, but you see what I mean )
Up is down, down is up, black is white ... etc.
Yet some find no problem with federal politicians basically pushing the exact same concept with illegals entering this country and staying for years in defiance of all federal laws about such.
At their core, how are the two different? Both are based in the fear of alienating a potential political constituency. And therefore are pandering at its worst.
Being old school, I suggest using fire hoses.
Having the state provide free euthanasia for the suffering is starting to look better all the time.
Nah, euthanasia is always for the other guy, dontcha know?
That is just so Bull Conner, violating the civil rights of the OWS protesters. They are righteous, so they have the right to disregard unjust local laws about sanitation! To make an omlette, you first have to have crap and litter all over the place!
RABID feral pittbulls.
I meant you were being inhumane to the pit bulls.
