DES MOINES Having just taken his place at the front of the Republican presidential pack, Newt Gingrich now faces a potential backlash from conservative activists here in Iowa over an immigration proposal that he called humane but that his opponents quickly decried as providing amnesty.
The former House speaker appears to have alienated some of the conservatives who had warmed to his candidacy by saying Tuesday in a candidates debate that he would allow millions of illegal immigrants who have settled in the United States to become legal residents.

last time I checked citizenship was not a right
He sure does think we’re stupid and that he knows better. He’d be battling what we did here in Arizona just as hard as BO and Holder have.
Anyone immediately talking about mass deportations has paid zero attention to what some states have done over the last few years. Self-deportation is the key, as I personally have been saying for at least the last 20 years, and on FR, since 2004.
People should also pay closer attention to how supportive the border-region (within 200 miles) Pravda presses are for the illegal criminals.
And note who are actually the ones being interrogated, hassled, strip-searched, and irradiated at various checkpoints across the nation (hint: it’s generally not the illegal aliens).
The sad thing is it seems our side is as, or more, vicious as something like AP.
Yes!
Brilliant!
We can be serious about our border, serious about legal immigration and be empathetic at the same time. Besides, its not about being “empathetic”..its being honest about how this country has ‘invited” these people in by our policies and economic needs and addressing the past and the future in the most reasonable way in OUR interests.
In Alabama illegals are “cut off “from utility service contracts in America US citizens are “cut off” from political representation.
So, let’s say I have been a good law abiding citizen, woked my ass off, provided for my family but I haven’ t filed my taxes in 10 years.
Would I be granted “amnesty”?
Yeah, right!!!
There's a reason The Republican Party is called The Stupid Party.
Newt agrees. From the Debate Newt's plan was 3 part... First, control the border- shut the door. Second, Guest Worker program. Third, a Review Board to review the illegals that are here.
Who in their right mind believes the BS about “guest worker” program? This scheme is more mindless than the global warming hoax. What about the EXIT program. Check out how well that’s going.
Fair, enough but I keeping thinking that Cain's one woman away from political oblivion.
Gingrich is wrong, but our little Republican primary voters may not even understand what he is saying.
CAIN 2012!!! Let’s Roll!!!
1. Demonstration of Leadership
2. Hispanic vote
3. Self vetting
Attrition through enforcement. Use state or local laws to deny access to utility contracts. Block jobs.Get states to stop honoring insurance liability claims unless businesses can prove verification of their workers. There are ways to encourage absence. Nobody talks about deportation being used except in instances of criminal dangerous aliens. This paradigm about deportation is the framework utilized by the cheap labor lobby to make enforcement techniques seem beyond the pale. Courts are upholding. AL-56 got 6 out of 4 provisions to be used.11 circuit court also upheld key provisions.
READ JUDGE SHARON LOVELACE BLACKBURN’S RULING.It’s the best thing going.
Let’s not paint ourselves into a corner. Eleven months from now are
we going to go third party, sit on our hands or vote Obama? If we dig into hard and fast positions it’ll spell the end of the Tea Party.
“Hmm. People like you are the liberals’ lawful prey.”
********
Would that were true....they would expire by starvation.
Hinck, since 1994, I’ve been a Newt supporter. But, now and again, he does something that doesn’t seem consistent with his professed views. And in those circumstances, given that he’s a brilliant guy, the outside observer tries to make sense of it.
Newt’s announced immigration doctrine is arbitrary and injects a moral relativism that cannot exist as policy (Incidently, I posted that here right after the debate- didn’t read any liberal media)-
So, as I’ve said in my posts, I’m just wondering, as a matter of political strategy, why he choose to pursue it-—especially now, when he had taking a commanding lead amongst conservative candidates?
I’m not putting him down—
P.S. Really? SEVEN sidebar stories on this same thing?
Really? LOL
