Newt Gingrich could face ‘Perry Plunge’ over immigration stance (Free Republic Mentioned)

At the top of the Republican presidential pack, Newt Gingrich is poised for what some call the “Perry Plunge” for supporting part of the pro-immigrant DREAM Act.

Like former frontrunner Rick Perry, Gingrich became a target of criticism among fellow Republicans at Tuesday night’s nationally televised debate for saying that some people should be allowed to stay in the United States even if they’re here illegally.

The former U.S. House Speaker said longtime residents who have raised families here, paid taxes and stayed out of trouble should not face deportation.

“I don’t see how the party that says it’s the party of the family is going to adopt an immigration policy which destroys families that have been here a quarter century,” Gingrich said during the CNN debate.

“I’m prepared to take the heat for saying: ‘Let’s be humane in enforcing the law without giving them citizenship but by finding a way to create legality so that they are not separated from their families,’” he said.

Gingrich’s comments were quickly blasted on conservative websites like Free Republic.

The compare and contrast here is not an exact one. Perry got in trouble because he said we were heartless. Gingrich is going to get in trouble here because he didn't LINK too many illegal aliens with too few jobs for Americans.

Although I found it more than easy to find that Texas' instate tuition laws that favor Mexicans over other Americans were, at heart, ANTIAMERICAN, I figure that in Newt's case he has not yet thought about the matter.

Presumably he will come up with some reason why I shouldn't consider him also equally ANTIAMERICAN.

I really have a hard time voting for a guy who is ANTIAMERICAN. I find it impossible to vote for any batarde who thinks I'm HEARTLESS!

I have some doubts about Newt but would support him if he won the nomination. Also I'd write in Sarah Palin before I'd vote for that kook Ron Paul.

I agree save for one thing; I would write in Jim Thompson.

A bit more than 660,000 people make a congressional district based on census counts. 30 million illegals means a whole crapload of democrats in congress that shouldn’t be there.

Then there’s the prison costs, welfare costs, infrastructure costs, loss of life.....

Mathematics IS a Liberal Arts major. It's NOT part of the school of architecture or engineering.

We former Math Majors have very comprehensnive views of everything including the very warp and woof of the entire UNIVERSE ~ Mathematicians Rule!

I have been saying recently that the biggest mistake Cain is making is not selling himself enough. He is letting the media label him as “the pizza guy” which is purposely demeaning.

Let’s try something better. Let’s elect a Congress that reflects and votes the will of American citizens and a president conservative enough to undo all the garbage that has been thrown at us over the past few years.

All of this triangulation to compromise reach across the aisle and find the middle has been tried before and it has never worked. It only gets you more liberalism. Get up off your rear end, get on your knees with prayer, then get out and pound doors for all conservative candidates. These squishy-middle, liberal Soros lovers should never be elected to anything.

Newt’s ratings SHOULD plunge with his immigration stance. Here’s the deal - if a guy robbed you 25 years ago and was convicted but never served any time because he fled, is he less guilty 25 years later and should be forgiven?

Essentially, that’s what Newt is proposing. We should overlook the fact that these illegals that Newt wants to amnesty have been breaking our laws and ignoring ours national sovereignty for 25 years and he thinks that’s hunky-dory.

Sorry, Newt, a bad idea won’t smell any better after 25 years. Deport their butts!!!

Even if we did a mass deportation, we would be spinning our wheels. It would be criminal stupidity to spend the money rounding them up and deporting them without the border sealed. We have neglected the border for so long, it has been embedded in the culture to cross the border, work a few years and cash in on the good life back in Mexico with the money saved in Mexican banks.

In the same way, Americans take advantage of the cheap Mexican peso and standard of living. How many know about retired U.S. citizens buying a villa for dirt cheap and living in Mexico? How many know what a “snowbird” is?

How many go down to Mexico to buy cheap leather goods and velvet paintings of Evis Presley? The dollar goes far in Mexico. That's why Mexican are crossing the border to come into the U.S.A. They want to save up that American dollar so they can take it and live the good life in Mexico.

Any change from the long standing border situation would cause changes that would have consequences not even anticipated. For that reason, there must be practical questions about any radical changes. I am not even sure what would happen if we sealed the border. Would the Mexican government then reciprocate by throwing out such people as American “snowbirds” and putting a squeeze on other Americans wanting to go into Mexico for various reasons?

The next big question is, what would Mexico do if suddenly we started deporting millions of illegals back into Mexico? How would Mexico be able to handle the influx of people? Would they say, we can't deal with it and put a stop to it? I can picture absolute chaos in Mexico with a few million illegals back into the country in a short period of time. Our relations with Mexico would be disastrous if our deportations caused an economic catastrophe in Mexico. We cannot act recklessly.

I believe Gingrich said deportation would be “inhumane”. That’s no different than heartless, to me.

"Intelligent people understand that Newt understood..."

For being such an intelligent guy, Newt sure has poor judgement. Requirement #1 for any executive position is sound decision making. That's what Presidents do - they make decisions. Requirement #2 is personal integrity. They need to put the good of the organization (or country) ahead of their own ego and personal gratification. Newt is woefully thin in both areas.

That amnesty he rubber-stamped back in 1986 is a big part of what caused the issues we now have with illegal immigration.

It was in reference to infliction of a policy that would break up families.

It's strictly hypothetical. Since the invention of modern forms of communication and travel, separations short of death or imprisonment hardly 'break up families".

A STRAW MAN.

Besides, Mexico is one of the world's best countries to live in. It's hardly punishment for a Mexican to live in Mexico. Nothing special in that at all. Millions do it every day.

Gingrich didn't come out and say deportation per se was inhumane ~ he's too slick for that ~ but we are all sophisticated enough these days to understand that he was pandering for hispanic votes. The way I look at it, if we get a hispanic vote, that's great, but if we can relocate two of them back to Mexico, that's even better!

Newt stepped in it, didn’t he? Like Perry before him. And before Perry, Ronald Reagan. All RINOs.

Let’s deport the 12 million. They broke the law. At least once. There may be some German specialists for mass resettlements in retirement in Paraguay and Argentina, who still remember how to do it. Let’s hire them. They did for 10 million what we need to do for 12. Sure, it took them 5 years, and martial law, but we’ll figure something out.

We'd all come out ahead if we organized the illegals here into armed militia who could go back to Mexico to FIX the problems that have created more billionaires than we have in America ~ yet, with little improvement in the lives of the average people.

Oh, yes, none of those Billionaires get to live in Miami anymore. They gotta' go too. Join their peeps. Work it out!

Idiot ~ Jacqueline Onassis' second husband figured out how to resettle 20 million Japanese from Manchuko to Brazil.

He used converted Liberty Ships to take them there.

It's easily done.

You imagine long lines of destitute refugees trudging across a dusty, barren desert.

A little bit of concrete and the main crossings with Mexico can be improved to eliminate any backups as those people DRIVE THEIR OWN CARS AND TRUCKS HOME!

That actually surprises me. I would have thought psychology, arts, political sciences, journalism, basket-weaving, and women’s studies would fall in under the Liberal Arts heading.

It would seem something as structured as Mathematics would come in under something related to a more specific sciences type degree.

Oh well.

BTW, regarding post WWII resettlements of Germans you’d probably want to hire on Poles and Russians ~ maybe some Czechs.
