DALLAS (AP) Former President George W. Bush will travel to Africa next month to raise awareness about cervical and breast cancer, an effort he calls a "natural extension" of a program launched during his presidency that helps fight AIDS on the continent.
Bush, former first lady Laura Bush and officials with the George W. Bush Institute are heading to Tanzania, Zambia and Ethiopia from Dec. 1 through Dec. 5, where they'll visit clinics and meet with governmental and health care leaders.
"We believe it's in our nation's interest to deal with disease and set priorities and save lives," Bush told The Associated Press.
In 2003, Bush launched the U.S. President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, or PEPFAR, to expand AIDS prevention, treatment and support programs in countries hit hard by the epidemic.

I thought Africans had their hands full with Elephant stampedes and hyena attacks.
Gag me with a spoon.
When did FR become so radically conservative that we would condone being so harsh about former President Bush?
Holy smokes.
I think this is getting ridiculous.
Used to be there was some respect for people.
It’s really rather sad.
Yep. Bush wasted billions of dollars a year on AIDS prevention in Africa. It was used to fund family planning outfits and condom distributors, and the net result was to spread MORE AIDS.
Much of the money was sucked up by gay activists who inevitably run these programs.
And it earned him absolutely no thanks from the gay community, which continued to blame him for the spread of AIDS.
Bush had his good points and his bad points. His support of these AIDS programs did a lot more harm than good. See my previous post. It was not one of his good points.
Bush was a Big Government borrow-and-spend "compassionate conservative" RINO tool who paved the way for Obama.
I don’t agree. He is a good man who did what he thought was best.
So many people think they know everything!
The road to hell is paved with good intentions.
So many people think they know everything!
Yes, including Bush, who thought he knew how to spend my future tax dollars better than I would.
FUGWB
I feel sorry for you.
May God bless George Bush.
Don't patronize me, Bushbot.
Can you explain what you mean by “radically conservative”?
yup, you can dish it out, but not take any criticism.
Good day
Hey , calling Bush a rino does not make one a radical conservative. Bush presided over the largest growth of government since LBJ.
Examples: when someone cannot be civil about any Republican running for president...or when referring to a former President..or when a candidate is ridiculed to the nth degree for having a slightly different view on something.
It’s kind of pathetic. (but that’s just my humble opinion)
He did what was best for the ruling class and foreigners. I can't agree that he's a good man based on his actions, though.
I liked Bush and still do.
Voted for him at least twice. :)
However, he was squishy on the social issues...sorry if that offends some.
He scores a 7.2 in my book.
Had he been a hard nose social conservative he would have easily broke 9.
Reagan was a 9.4.
WhereasCarter was a 1.1, Clinton was a 2.9 and Ibama is a -8.5!
Well I’m certainly not offened by your post.
I tend to agree. ;)
I just get fed up with all the foolish name calling, etc. (RINO- yeah, okay)
Love the 1-10 (and minus 10) scale, by the way!
