An effigy of US President Barack Obama was burned over the weekend by members of the Conservative student association at St Andrews University.
The incident is understood to have taken place on Friday evening on the town's East Sands beach.

“While it does not violate any laws, we believe that the burning of political or public figures in effigy can be an act of hate, stifles productive engagement and can be offensive.”
...same old crap different day. They can, we can’t.
I’m surprised that they aren’t being called racists
Expect visits by the Secret Service. Clinton once had someone arrested (detained) who dissed him as he passed in a motorcade.
Has the CIA, NSA, FBI, ATF, EPA and FDA started their investigations about this yet?
That’s an “understood” accusation.
I actually find this quite offensive. While we may disagree with Obama, we are still a family of Americans, and I find this disrespectful. They have a right to do it I suppose, but I don’t have to like it.
I don’t, he has done nothing but disrespect the UK from day number 1.
And in fairness, feel free to do the same of our awful PM Cameron.....you will have this Brits full support!
I’d forgotten all about that!
It’s a hate crime dontcha know. I think it’s in poor taste, I would be upset if my kids did that. Sounds more like a liberal stunt to me. Ad hominem attacks are last resorts of the desperate, often backfiring.
These kids should tell officials that they were simply following Janet Napolitano’s advise, and making sure that their turkey was properly thawed before cooking it.
I too would be pretty disappointed if I found my children participating in this sort of “activism”.
I get more upset when a group of illegal mexicans burns an American flag in protest, while in America and on American TV, for more “rights” (That pisses me off).
I am drawing a picture of Cameron for you. When I am done coloring it, I will light it on fire here at the office and drop it in a waste can.
Glad I can help. Have a happy Thanksgiving.
PS - Do Brits celebrate Thanksgiving?
Would they actually go to the UK to grab the kids for this expression of free speech? I think not.
A bowling alley in Clearwater, Florida, Bowl-O-Bama, is doing record business despite a bad economy. The alley also reports a record number of 300 games.
Since opening in November 2010, 963 patrons have bowled a perfect game, including strikes in the warm-up frames.
This alley also has the highest bowling league average in the country, with a 237. And thats the senior league.
I’d bet that most of the individuals who are speaking out against the actions of the Conservative students, had nothing to say when a British TV network produced a film depicting George W. Bush being assassinated.
haha.....we don’t celebrate thanksgiving, although obviously the large amounnt of Americans over here do! But happy thanksgiving to yourself and your family!
Thanks for posting this. I know an Obama supporter here in Florida that graduated from St. Andrews. I can’t wait to rub this in.
Doing anything impolite to any image of President Obama can and will be treated as a felony. Just try hanging his picture up at the gun range and see how nervous it makes the owner.
Me, I've found something that I can use to treat him with all the honor dignity that he deserves. I'm gonna get one of these little dudes, and it's nobody's business what I do with it after I get bored with it
