I don’t know why they keep talking about “11 million” illegals already here.
It’s more like 30 million, and growing by the hour.

Conferring rights and privileges upon illegal aliens has a corrosive effect on the Rule of Law, the very foundation of our Republic. It is also a slap in the face to legal immigrants who have followed the rules and obeyed the laws. There are millions of immigrants waiting their turn overseas to enter the U.S. legally and approximately 40 million immigrants living in the U.S., most of whom followed the law.
We had a one-time anmnesty 25 years ago in 1986. When you reward something, you get more of it. Is the message we are sending, get here any way you can and then wait for the next amnesty, the best way to deal with the 12 to 20 million illegal aliens that are here?

The proponents of amnesty are wont to create the false choice between a blanket amnesty and mass deportation of 12 to 20 million illegal aliens. In reality, we have other choices and alternatives that dont reward people who have broken our laws with the right to stay and work here and an eventual path to citizenship. The 12 to 20 million illegal aliens did not enter this country overnight and they will not leave overnight. Attrition through enforcement works. We have empirical data from Georgia, Oklahoma, and Arizona proving that it does.

McCain supported amnesty and got 35% of the Hispanic vote. Pandering will not win votes.

People ought to respect that Rick Perry has governed a state with a tremendous amount of illegals that were here when he took office and even more that spilled over during his term in office.
I am not asking that people agree with every thought or decision he has made on immigration or illegals. As governor, he received a bill to sign or veto that gave in-state tuition to certain kids (illegal/sorta illegal/unknown if illegal)...
It was veto-proof. He had no choice but to sign it, or veto it in principle and get shot down and heckled by the hundreds, maybe thousands of people that worked to get it done.
Beyond that, is there anything in illegal immigration that you can conclusively get your hands around and tell us he's failed at? We've already concluded he cannot deport people on his own.
If anything, Perry has been MORE pro-active than any governor on border security by instituting his own team of state police with aviation assets to defend our border with Mexico. These guys are in the skies at all times, in the bushes, walking the river, patrolling everywhere, making arrests, getting shot at, turning away illegals and dope smugglers on Texas taxpayers' dime. Over and beyond what Border Patrol does.
Why the hell can't people seem to get that?

secure the borders... hire unemployed to find them, fine the businesses that hire them... and escort them to the border... hasta la vista baby and all.
for their own good and the good of their country... make your third world a haven for America’s poor... and we’ll talk about open borders then.

Some arrogant Gingrichbot told me the man is so bright he can argue any side of an issue.”
Yes, he appears to be taking both sides of every issue. And how does that make him a Romney alternative ? (I would ask him)

I don’t think what he says in any way sounds like amnesty. He talks about a hypothetical where an illegal is here 25 years with family here, and being deported. He says we will follow the law, there will be stiff penalities.
I’m convinced now that people hear what they wish hear with their candidate and the ones they dislike.

RE: "Yep, climate control, amnesty, Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae and health insurance mandates. This is the Romney alternative??"
It may come down to that. Don't know if you noticed but the Russians are getting a bit uppity up at this point. The new Start Treaty may break down. President Medvedev appears on the record now that he might consider targeting some of our European defense sites. We get no where with the North Korean issue. Iran's Mullahs and ruling elite may hold out for years as they approach a point where they just may be able to construct and make successful tests of atomic bombs. Iran will eventually improve upon their short range and mid range ballistic missiles to put the whole European and mid east in their sights.
The Chinese will continue their path on obtaining close parity with the US on the defense plane.
Who best to see to it that the US stops slipping in how the world views us.
Lots of things to have to consider here.

Save your breath my friend. What you ask has been hashed and rehashed over and over again here at FR. The list of things I have found Perry to be deficient in is lengthy and noteworthy. I along with many others here have elucidated on them time and again. To keep bringing it up again and again will not change anything.
Sorry, but I'm not playing yours or any other of the Perrywinkles game anymore. Just suffice it to say that Perry lost my support long ago. His heartless remark just cemented my opposition beyond any further consideration. That ill-conceived comment was a defining moment for many and myself included.

The seeds of this decline were planted in the last administration by those that talked about how important it was that we be the world power. Those seeds were $$$(debt) related and also electing Obama. Romney is now the descendant of that school.
You dont stay a major world power by bankrupting your country, letting the better jobs flee over-seas (without bringing back better sustainable ones) and letting the country be invaded by the poor from a third world nation.

Um, I think that’s putting it mildly. It is kinda like saying he is prepared to “take the heat” by talking about his alien abduction experience”.
i.e. it will not go well for him politically.
