Gingrich to teach free online course from White House if elected

If elected to the White House, former speaker of the House and history professor Newt Gingrich wants to teach Americans a lesson -- that is, for free on the Internet about his policy views. The self-proclaimed "ideas man" said on Monday his course would be distributed on the Web in a format similar to the University of Phoenix or Kaplan.

"I think I will probably teach a course when I'm president," Gingrich told students and supporters after a campaign speech on entitlement reform at Saint Anselm College's New Hampshire Institute of Politics.

"I will probably try to do something that outlines for the whole country what we're going to try to accomplish," he said. "It will be free."

The former West Georgia College professor who holds a Ph.D. in modern European history from Tulane University rarely misses an opportunity to remind voters and journalists of his academic credentials. On the campaign trail, Gingrich often employs historical anecdotes involving the Wright Brothers, horse-drawn stagecoaches and Abraham Lincoln to illustrate his policy positions.

Gingrich said an online course would be one element of a major social media strategy that would allow him to communicate with more citizens directly, if elected president.

"The idea would be, why wouldn't you want a president in the age of social media to methodically in an organized way share with you what they're going to accomplish so that those people who really won't understand it can understand it," Gingrich said.

Touting himself as a social media savvy candidate, Gingrich promised to tweet more as president but speak less.

How exactly? The former speaker vowed to deliver few speeches to his constituents,

Two very fact-based articles. The same things dems did to Sarah in Alaska. Newt was the first repub to be Palinized.

Wow, that does it for me. Leroy really has no clue as to what being an executive entails. If Newt is the GOP nominee, I will either write in Palin again, or I will vote third party. Leroy the history professor has no business running anything.

I guess you didn’t have time to read the articles (quotes in context):

link 2: “Gingrich is paying $300,000 for the costs of an ethics committee investigation... after admitting last year he made inaccurate statements during a lengthy probe into Democratic allegations that he misused tax-exempt donations. Gingrich denied the charges but submitted to a reprimand by the House.”

link 1: “The second ‘charge’ from the committee is that, in the course of the investigation, Newt provided false information to the committee. And what was this “false information?” Newt testified that the above contributions were in fact made by those organizations to “Renewing American Civilization.” He filed papers that stated the very same thing. This is never a fact that anyone was trying to hide. But one paper filed with the committee stated that those groups did not make the contributions. For this, there was an uproar about Newt’s ethics, and he was fined.

Basically, Newt was fined $300,000 because he didn’t read his lawyers’ documents carefully.”

I am getting pretty sick of typing this, but it sounds like you could use the lesson: Like it or not, we are stuck with a two party system that makes third party candidates. You don't get to pick your president. You get the pick the best viable option. In a two party system, failure to vote for the least undesirable major party candidate is mathematically equivalent to a vote for the most undesirable major party candidate. Third party votes, write-in votes, and abstinence are all lost votes against the most undesirable candidates. In making your idiotic point, you are essentially voting for four more years of Barak Obama.

Should Gingrich end up winning, you really might want to think about signing up for that class of his.
