A federal judge sentenced Tony Rezko to 10 1/2 years in prison Tuesday, describing his actions under Rod Blagojevichs tenure as selfish and corrupt.
Rezko has already served about 44 months. His daughter burst into tears at hearing the sentence.
U.S. District Judge Amy St. Eve said she found it offensive that Rezko put at risk the Teachers Retirement System by scheming for kickbacks with a board member in 2004.
You put their retirements at risk for your own greed and your own thirst for power, St. Eve said.
A pale, thin Rezko gave a brief statement before he learned his sentence, saying there are no words to describe the pain and regret, he carries and the amount of suffering his family has endured. He apologized to the court and to his family.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Chris Niewoehner said Rezkos conduct was severe and included scheming with former Gov. Rod Blagojevich and others to control state deals so they could make money off of it.
Thats about as bad as it can get in a political corruption case, he said. Illinois was for sale at the very top levels of our government. Rezkos attorney, Joseph Duffy, said his client would never commit a crime again.
Rezko grew clearly agitated as Niewoehner said Rezko overstated poor conditions in county jail. Niewoehner said Rezko got sunlight -- through skylights.
Excellent info, thanks.
Haven’t read that .. what
is the link?
Does Barack Obama know anyone who isn’t a crook, thief, domestic terrorist, charlatan, scammer or murderer?
That’s what I was thinking. Like Jack Ruby. Bet he’s dead within a year.
He has nothing to lose but his life. He keeps mum, maybe he’ll get out of prison. He talks, maybe he won’t.
Yhea...& they can't pull another "Our Poor (Friend of Klintoon) 'Ol Vince Accident"...
a prison version "Our Poor (Friend of Klintoon) 'Ol Jim McDougaull (Husband Of Sue)
While it's true that President Obama began his political career in the living room of former Weather Underground terrorists Bill Ayers ... his first political sponsor and major fundraiser was Antoin "Tony" Rezko.
The pair go back to the 1990s and Obama's state Senate years, but they are best known for the still-not-completely-explained 2005 real estate deal that allowed the Obamas to buy their Chicago South Side mansion, while Rezko's wife bought a narrow strip of the home's lot on the same day.
...In 2003, Rezko held a crucial fundraiser for Obama's US Senate campaign at his Chicago North Shore home--the future president was seen as a decided underdog in the race at that time.
Sure. Bo.
obummer lets this guy rot under the bus theres no way he can pardon him
He'll be out before then. A 10.5 year sentence accounting for time already served (44 months) and time off for good behavior will put him out of jail just before election time next year.
THAT is when we want Rezko to sing like a bird, and not a moment before.
11-22-11Obama pardons 5, commutes 1 sentence for convictions including selling drugs, gambling
Excerpt:
WASHINGTON President Barack Obama on Monday pardoned five people convicted of charges ranging from intent to distribute marijuana to running an illegal gambling business.
And he issued his first commutation, ordering the release of a woman next month after serving 10 years on a 22-year sentence for cocaine distribution.
He just made some weird pardons. Someone should be looking into any connections.
Ilike
Good for Wiki .. wonder how long that’ll
stay up.
That was my first thought but on second thought I strongly doubt it. Does anyone actually think Berry would put himself out for another. Just look at his brother still living in a Kenyon mud shack.
Right after election day if o bozo wins again.
Yup, He’ll hang himself from the prison library door.
