Modern Dallas coming to grips with Kennedy assassination (Barf Alert)
Los Angeles Times ^ | 11/22/2011 | Molly Hennessy-Fiske

Those organizing the 50th anniversary event — many of whom, like Longford, are not from Dallas or were born after 1963 — say they are not capitalizing on memories of Camelot. They want to show the world how far "Big D," the fourth-largest metropolitan area in the country, has come from its days as a conservative outpost of big-haired socialites, oil tycoons and cowboys.

"People arrive and expect to see people walking down the street in cowboy hats," said Phillip Jones, head of the Dallas Convention and Visitors Bureau. "Instead, they find a city with the sixth-largest gay and lesbian population in the country, where 40% of the population is Hispanic and more than 20% is African American."

[...]

Darwin Payne, then a reporter with the Dallas Times Herald, had run to Dealey Plaza to interview a teary Abraham Zapruder, who filmed his iconic footage of the assassination while standing at one of the pergolas, a spot that came to be known as Zapruder's Perch. Payne said many Dallasites felt guilty because they had ignored or condoned other conflicts leading up to the assassination, including an attack by conservative activists on U.N. Ambassador Adlai Stevenson.

"We were defensive at first. Then the realization came — we let the extreme right wing go on too long. We let them do too much," said Payne, author of "Big D: Triumphs and Troubles of an American Supercity in the 20th Century."

But in time, Payne said, "the attitude became, 'We have to be tolerant of other viewpoints and not allow extremists to run rampant.' "

Somehow the article never finds it appropriate to point out that Kennedy was killed by a commie, not a right wing extremist.

JFK’s successor was LBJ.

I remember where I was I heard Kennedy was shot.

I also remember where I was when I rode over that X. The Connally position.

A commie killed Kennedy. Not that it matters.

From my visit to Dealey Plaza.

The kill shot came from here. Above the Grassy Knoll, behind the white wall, just in front of the big tree.

From standing where you took your picture of the X in the street, it would be up behind your left shoulder.

I'm well aware of the location of the grassy knoll; I was there just 2 years ago. I took this shot from there.

...have announced plans for a large 50th anniversary event in 2013, and are raising $2.2 million in public and private money to restore Dealey Plaza.

That should be some celebration. What are these dopes thinking. Having an event to cash in on a guy getting his brains blown on to his wife's lap. Geez. By reading what types of Leftist wackos and degenerates populate Dallas, who would want to go there anyway?

Huh? What happened to all the white people?

Well, let us start with the fact that Dallas was not a cowtown—that would be Ft. Worth—but an agricultural center. It is at the extreme edge of northEAST Texas. As for the conservatives, they have just moved North, into North Dallas, the Park Cities and suburbs like Plano and Lewisville, which are Tea Party country.

Only in Texas can a U.S. president be assassinated, while the assassin is murdered on camera, while in police custody.

Top shelf security!

Somehow the article never finds it appropriate to point out that Kennedy was killed by a commie, not a right wing extremist.

That's one theory.

A second holds that Kennedy was out to get Castro and Fuzzy Face bumped Jack off first.

A third holds that Papa Joe and Jack double-crossed the Mob -- who stole the Rat nomination fair and square for Jack by delivering the unionized West Virginia coal miners in the primary (finally putting Jack over the top) -- and then stole the general election fair and square by delivering Chicago (and Illinois) along with mayor Daley in the general election -- only to be betrayed by attorney general brother Boobie who went after the boys in the pinstripe suits with a vengeance. The Mafia in turn did to Jack what they do to everyone who everyone they consider to be a traitor.

Any way you slice it, your main premise holds. Kennedy was bumped off by someone other than a right wing nut.

I remember when Reagan was shot. When the word came that Hinkley had bought his pistol in Dallas, Frank Reynolds, the newsman threw up his hands and yelled...”OH!DALLAS!”

A clear, clean shot alright from that perch. The distance is incredibly close, that motorcade moving ever so slowly.

A Marxist, screwed up boy who went to the USSR and wandered around aimlessly in life, wanting to be a "big boy" (and only that kid), wife-beating in the process, popped off those shots from that window. Convinced. Marxist kid though and through. Screwed up. This had nothing to do with conservatism nor the right side of the political spectrum, although this was their Rush to Judgment in only about three hours after the deed was done, they were all over the three networks and radio with such a theory, long since proven wrong.

And the left did not learn anything from their mistake. Recall after Gabby Giffords had been shot they tried to once again lay blame on the right and this time Sarah Palin. Fools.

If from this phone angle behind that fence for cover facing Elm Street and the X (forgive me if I make this inference incorrectly), then, Mr. Kennedy would have been hit on the right side of his head, which he was not. He was hit from the rear, it want straight through, exited the front, and nerve impuse of the shot to his brain sent him jerking backward the moment of shot. Even if you want to subscribe to the theory he as hit from the front, then it certainly was not from this position. No way could he have been shot from this position where the pic was taken. Also, people looking right up in this direction would have directly seen a “grassy knoll positioned” rifle and the smoke and report, whilst nearly everyone on the medium strip of grass was NOT focused on the true source of the shot, up and BEHIND THEM, the sixth floor window of the Texas School Book Depository Building on Elm, right behind them, but rather on President Kennedy and the direct he was traveling...which the false theory says would be right toward the “fence” or “knoll” shooter. Shots fired from the front initially would also have John Connally looking forward to the sound of the gunshot report, not looking backward. I had the privilege of briefly meeting John Connally (RIP) years ago—after he switched parties, and while I am sure he tired of the question, I did ask it anyway just off the dais, and he said to me, it came from the BACK. I believe him.

Molly Hennssey Fiske who more than likely has never set foot in Texas. And, BTW, there was never a Camelot outside the mind of Jackie Kennedy and the press.
