Are Mormons "Weird"?
Mormon Defense League ^ | August 12, 2011 | Mormon Defense League

The LDS Church is politically neutral, as is MDL. Mormons hold elected office and positions of responsibility in both US political parties and various parties worldwide. When we respond to any issue regarding politics, we do so only to correct misinformation and misperceptions about the Church, not in an effort to promote a particular candidate or party.

Recently, Politico reported that part of President Obama’s 2012 reelection campaign strategy will be to portray Mitt Romney, a Mormon and possible Republican presidential nominee, as “weird.” The Politico report did not specifically tie the “weird” charge to Romney’s Mormon faith, but many commentators have speculated that is the logical application of such a strategy.

Commentators from various political perspectives have also condemned any such strategy. Blogger Jane Hamsher wrote: “To preach religious tolerance as Obama does, and then engage in this kind of appeal to religious bigotry, is both hypocritical and pernicious, not to mention self-defeating…As the economy gets worse, people better be really careful about stoking tribalist rage against any minority.” Researcher and author Glenn Stanton agreed: “Yes, you can be pretty sure that it will be his Mormon faith where most of the ‘weirdness’ innuendos will land. And this from a president who had to finally and reluctantly distance himself from his own faith heritage.” Former presidential speechwriter David Frum noted: “The attacks will tiptoe up to the line of outright anti-Mormon bigotry.” In Time, political reporter Michael Crowley summed it up: “You’d like to think that the people who work for a man who has been slurred countless times because of his race would take a higher road.”

You know I made a mistake....Sorry.

I was raised in Utah and have lived in Alabama, California and Alaska now. I do now remember the differences between the "good pioneer stock" mormons and the "converts".

Let me guess, you live in Utah or Idaho ?

I do know that a lot of Christian types that know a mormon don't get peel the onion very deep to see what's really inside, my comment was for them.

"I do remember feeling like a demon had taken over.

- - - - - - -
That is exactly what happened. Make no mistake, Mormonism is demonic to its core.

I used to lament my time in Mormonism until I saw that it was a stepping stone to my salvation and my work in ministry and also part of what prepared me to marry a wonderful Christian man like MrR."

I had about a dozen separate experiences as young man in the LDS Church of what I can only describe as demonic visitations. Some were accompanied by complete temporary paralysis. They were often in the same time frame as some type of lds ceremony, such as my first trip to the temple to be necrodunked, being "ordained" to "Deacon"(at 12) or "priest". I went to my "bishop" and he told me this type of thing was VERY common around these times because "satan doesn't want you to go to the temple" or whatever. I remember asking my friends and they all had something similar happen at one time or another. I now know it WAS BECAUSE I was doing these things I invited this stuff into my life. Up until almost the very month I was saved I would have bouts of recurring related vivid, lucid dreams of the same beings along with "sleep paralysis". Years later my sister described the same beings I saw, overpowering and holding her down trying to rape her, and just last year (25 years later) my mother told me she saw the same beings when she visited my now grown sister's house.

Joseph Smith claimed to have similar things happen to him, and even gave instructions on how to supposedly tell the difference between an angel and a demon.

Mormons teach a story often from the pulpit.....

"A man is taken by an angel to a path between villages. A man walks by happy, peaceful and whistling. A few minutes later another man walks by uncomfortably with a demon on his back. A few minutes later another man is struggling up the path, with hordes of demons around an on him. The angel turn to the watching man and says who is the most righteous to which the watching man replies, the one with no demons. The angle says you are wrong, he is the wicked man, in no need of tempting, the righteous man is the one with all the demons working to harm him."

Demonic activity in the LDS church is not only common, it is covered up by twisting it from consequence of tinkering in the occult, to a sign of righteousness.

Joseph Smith claimed to have similar things happen to him, and even gave instructions on how to supposedly tell the difference between an angel and a demon.

Strange he didn't use his 'knowledge' on the two PERSONAGES!!

 Doctrine and Covenants       Section 129

Instructions given by Joseph Smith the Prophet, at Nauvoo, Illinois, 9 February 1843, making known three grand keys by which the correct nature of ministering angels and spirits may be distinguished (see History of the Church, 5:267).

1–3, There are both resurrected and spirit bodies in heaven; 4–9, Keys are given whereby messengers from beyond the veil may be identified.
1 There are two kinds of beings in heaven, namely: Angels, who are resurrected personages, having bodies of flesh and bones;
2 For instance, Jesus said: Handle me and see, for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have.
3 Secondly: the spirits of just men made perfect, they who are not resurrected, but inherit the same glory.
4 When a messenger comes saying he has a message from God, offer him your hand and request him to shake hands with you.
5 If he be an angel he will do so, and you will feel his hand.
6 If he be the spirit of a just man made perfect he will come in his glory; for that is the only way he can appear;
7 Ask him to shake hands with you, but he will not move, because it is contrary to the order of heaven for a just man to deceive; but he will still deliver his message.
8 If it be the devil as an angel of light, when you ask him to shake hands he will offer you his hand, and you will not feel anything; you may therefore detect him.
9 These are three grand keys whereby you may know whether any administration is from God.

       Joseph Smith

I used to live in Utah (and California) when I was LDS. And you are right, most non-LDS only see the surface. I know I did when I was ‘investigating’.

Yes she is. My mom was FREAKED, a won't go back into my sister's house. I hadn't told her when I was younger, and my sister only told me at the time.

the beings my mother described are EXACTLY the ones who messed with me.

I on the other hand, by the saving grace of God, am completely free of the conquered little turds who don't even have the power to stink. ;)

James 4:7
Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

15 After I had retired to the place where I had previously designed to go,
having looked around me, and finding myself alone,
I kneeled down and began to offer up the desires of my heart to God.

I had scarcely done so, when immediately I was aseized upon by some power
which entirely overcame me, and had such an astonishing influence over me
as to bind my tongue so that I could not speak. Thick bdarkness gathered around me,
and it seemed to me for a time as if I were doomed to sudden destruction.

You were; JS; you were.

Just not at that appointed time.

But the prophet, who being corrupted with pride, shall speak in my name things that I did not command him to say, or in the name of strange gods, shall be slain.

I have often wondered if Smith made the whole thing up or was visited by demons in that grove.

2 Corinthians 11:14
And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.

Ditto that.

Been saying the exact same thing for years now.........

Frankly....I don't think rank and file mormon's know what storm is coming..if Romney is the GOP candidate.

Personally I think...mormonism will be exposed..like never before. And the mormon folks here...will rue the day...that Romney was voted into the GOP spot.

I live in a rural area...near a small town.

The local Catholic Church...has free lunch everyday. A local very small Non-denominational Church is giving away 100 turkeys this Thanksgiving.

Every time I drive by the local LDS, Inc. building....it's dark. But the lawn is mowed!!

Amen. It never ceases to amaze me how things we thought of as ‘spiritual’ when we were LDS we recognize as demonic now that we are Christians.

I will keep your sister in my prayers.

I can say this....

It's always funny that it appears the mormons make sure they are in "print" when they do something.

The local Churches don't have print...the folks just know they have a kind hand..if they need it. They have signs outside their places..of worship, saying they are offering free meals. EVERY DAY..in the case of the Catholic Church.

When you finally realize...what your "church" is all about..and founded on. I will congratulate you..that you finally found the truth. Meanwhile....the nicely manicured LDS, Inc. building is dark.

LDS, Inc. wants to preen and flaunt. But in reality....that 50 BILLION....that LDS, Inc has is better made, making MONEY for "The Church". Period.
