The LDS Church is politically neutral, as is MDL. Mormons hold elected office and positions of responsibility in both US political parties and various parties worldwide. When we respond to any issue regarding politics, we do so only to correct misinformation and misperceptions about the Church, not in an effort to promote a particular candidate or party.
Recently, Politico reported that part of President Obamas 2012 reelection campaign strategy will be to portray Mitt Romney, a Mormon and possible Republican presidential nominee, as weird. The Politico report did not specifically tie the weird charge to Romneys Mormon faith, but many commentators have speculated that is the logical application of such a strategy.
Commentators from various political perspectives have also condemned any such strategy. Blogger Jane Hamsher wrote: To preach religious tolerance as Obama does, and then engage in this kind of appeal to religious bigotry, is both hypocritical and pernicious, not to mention self-defeating
As the economy gets worse, people better be really careful about stoking tribalist rage against any minority. Researcher and author Glenn Stanton agreed: Yes, you can be pretty sure that it will be his Mormon faith where most of the weirdness innuendos will land. And this from a president who had to finally and reluctantly distance himself from his own faith heritage. Former presidential speechwriter David Frum noted: The attacks will tiptoe up to the line of outright anti-Mormon bigotry. In Time, political reporter Michael Crowley summed it up: Youd like to think that the people who work for a man who has been slurred countless times because of his race would take a higher road.

Some do. Some think it was never finished; but the record shows quite plainly that it was.
The standard spin from SLC is that the MORMONs were run out of Missouri by a murderous mob, and if they had NOT fled they'd all been killed - or WORSE!
Strangely, a lot of them decided to stay behind, and THEY are the ones who prospered, retaining all of the MORMON property - becoming the Rlds and later the CoC; who had the COPYRIGHT® of the JST in their hot little hands.
Saundra; you get upset if someone calls Joseph Smith ‘Joey’.
What’s your take on ‘Sam’?

Have you ever been described as Pavlovian?
Happy Turkey Day!
LOL. Last time I saw that phrase was on a placard at a gay rights parade and look at what they've done for the country.
You could really develop quite a list. I bet a fellow with a lot of time on his hands to really work on more advanced bigotry could give Archy Bunker a run for his money.
I wouldn’t have replied to you had I known just how smart you are.
You claim I’m a bigot, I claim you are an idiot. Anyone who claims mormonism is a moron.
Fair enough. What’s your opinion on space travel?
Well I won’t be wanting to travel to Kolob.
If you try hard enough you’re certain to get what you want.
Strawman, red herring, whatever.
If comparing us ex-mormons to queers is all you got left, then I call that a win.
I wasn’t comparing you to a homosexual. I presume you’re heterosexual. You’re married to a Christian, no?
It was just that your phrase was so out of place. You get the irony I think. Don’t let these threads fluster you or get you hot. They’re just practice for the real thing.
Godwin’s law.
You lost with the first post...
As a sinner - I have to answer for myself - no-one else.

As Christians we are called to expose works of darkness and bring others to Christ. Mormonism isn’t just ‘another Christian religion’ like they claim, it takes people AWAY from Christ. The best witnesses to the LDS are those who were once LDS and were led out of that darkness and into the light.
As Christians we will be held accountable for the unsaved we don’t witness to.
If those Christians who witnessed to me (and made me mad enough to try to prove them wrong) had your attitude, I would still be Mormon and still unsaved. I thank God for those who had the courage to tell me Mormonism was a pack of lies and not Christian.
How will you respond at your judgement when Christ asks you why you did not tell the lost of Him?
The best way to deal with Mormon missionaries is to know your Bible. When I was training to be a Mormon missionary we were taught to avoid those who knew their Bible well. The other thing is to ask them how many wives Joseph Smith had - the answer is 34. They will assume you are an ‘anti’ and leave you alone.
Most LDS claim there was no White Horse prophecy, but the Liberty MO jail visitor center has the prophecy on the wall. I am one who believes Smith DID give the prophecy but that it was about his run for POTUS in 1844, not a future event, therefore it is already another FALSE prophecy by Smith.
Witnessing to others isn’t not trusting Christ. Christ can and does work through others and witnessing is part of following Christ.
Those of us who have been there (ex-Mormons now Christians) like SZ and myself would probably not have seen the light if others were not led by their love of Christ to tell us we were following a false Christ and headed for a very real Hell (which the LDS do not believe in).
