The LDS Church is politically neutral, as is MDL. Mormons hold elected office and positions of responsibility in both US political parties and various parties worldwide. When we respond to any issue regarding politics, we do so only to correct misinformation and misperceptions about the Church, not in an effort to promote a particular candidate or party.
Recently, Politico reported that part of President Obamas 2012 reelection campaign strategy will be to portray Mitt Romney, a Mormon and possible Republican presidential nominee, as weird. The Politico report did not specifically tie the weird charge to Romneys Mormon faith, but many commentators have speculated that is the logical application of such a strategy.
Commentators from various political perspectives have also condemned any such strategy. Blogger Jane Hamsher wrote: To preach religious tolerance as Obama does, and then engage in this kind of appeal to religious bigotry, is both hypocritical and pernicious, not to mention self-defeating
As the economy gets worse, people better be really careful about stoking tribalist rage against any minority. Researcher and author Glenn Stanton agreed: Yes, you can be pretty sure that it will be his Mormon faith where most of the weirdness innuendos will land. And this from a president who had to finally and reluctantly distance himself from his own faith heritage. Former presidential speechwriter David Frum noted: The attacks will tiptoe up to the line of outright anti-Mormon bigotry. In Time, political reporter Michael Crowley summed it up: Youd like to think that the people who work for a man who has been slurred countless times because of his race would take a higher road.

The thread didn’t start with any statement from me, did it?
Are we fighting now?
I don’t see any fighting that I’m participating in. Vendome’s comment was inane, but if you understand it please explain it to me.
Question 7: Do you support, affiliate with, or agree with any group or individual whose teachings or practices are contrary to or oppose those accepted by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints?
We all 3 remember what it was like when we were LDS, we exhibited the same symptoms Sandy does of brainwashing. The LDS church comes first, anything not glowing about the LDS church was ‘persecution’ and we were told that it was ‘proof’ that ‘the Church’ was ‘true’. Yet, by God’s grace we 3 saw the light, we were blind but now we see. And we remember how hard it was to accept that we had been lied to by our own beloved LDS church. We also all found Christ and healing in His grace.
Sandy has traded her birthright (Christ) for a bowl of gruel, she just doesn’t see it yet. Pray that she will.
I saw an episode of CSI once where a guy, under the control of hypnotist took a huge bite out of an onion, thinking it was an apple because the person who controlled him told him it was an apple. My first thought was “That is just what Mormonism is”. They eat (in their case) ROTTEN onions being deceived in to thinking they are delicious apples and controlled by their leadership.
Sandy, the mere fact that you go to such great lengths to defend a Mormon like Mitt rather than kick him to the curb shows how much control the LDS church has gained over you. Conservatism is thinking for yourself, yet you see as true things in Mitt that are just lies.
I asked you on another thread if you would support Mitt if he were an Evangelical Christian rather than a Mormon and you didn’t really answer me. All other things the same (Mitt’s flip flopping, pro abortion, liberal, statist, anti-gun stances), if Mitt were NOT a Temple Mormon would you really support him or would you be like most others here and say NO WAY to Mitt?? Think about that. Most of the Christians on here don’t like Huck regardless if he shares our faith or not, yet the LDS (with very few exceptions) defend him. Why is that if it is not that he is one of the “Elders of Zion” and a Mormon POTUS would be good for ‘the Church’.
Sandy, don’t just repeat the lies you are told, start to think for yourself and look at things objectively again. Mormonism has done you a great disservice if you have thrown away your conservatism for a lie.
Good post and accurate.

The spiritual journey of a FReeper is not something I am qualified to question.
As a sinner - I have to answer for myself - no-one else.
Just ask the next ones how it is possible that their god created man, but was first a man to begin with. IOW, “who or what force created the first man who became god and why that being or force not the true God?”
After that, the word will get out and you will be left alone.
The "White Horse Prophesy" is a lie. It didn't happen, it was never spoken by Joseph Smith, it is just as much word of mouth urban legnd as all the stories of "Resurrected stripling warriors" guarding the doors of the Logan temple from torch wielding anti-mormons there to burn it down. It is myth, tall tale, legend.
Current and past LDS leadershiop have all stated that there never was given any "white horse prophecy" by Joseph Smith.
Saundra and others are defending Romney FOR NOTHING.
So sad, really.
She's not checking our referenced quotes, she is ignoring them. Only when she gets mad enough to go prove us wrong will she wake up and realize we've been telling the truth and trying to help her all along.
Ephesians 5:11
And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them.
Trust Christ’s love and redemption.
Ya’ll do a fabulous job and I appreciated the time and energy it takes to do “battle” day after day. I still feel a bit of sadness...many years ago I lost my finance to Mormonism. I tried and tried to pull him back but I finally had to let go. It still bothers me to this day that I was unable to do more.
I meant fiance...
"Come on! ye prosecutors! ye false swearers! All hell, boil over! Ye burning mountains, roll down your lava! for I will come out on top at last. I have more to boast of than ever any man had. I am the only man that has ever been able to keep a whole church together since the days of Adam. A large majority of the whole have stood by me. Neither Paul, John, Peter, nor Jesus ever did it. I boast that no man ever did such a work as I. The followers of Jesus ran away from Him; but the Latter-day Saints never ran away from me yet...When they can get rid of me, the devil will also go." (FLDS/LDS "Prophet" Joseph Smith, History of the Church, Vol. 6, p. 408, 409)
Realize that the mormon leadership lies to and hides historical truth from the members. The easiest wedge to drive in to start prying them free is historical quotes from lds books.
Also the JST bible non-use by the LDS sect in unanswerable.
No one asked you about her spiritual journey. I was specifically talking about her political journey. She went from a staunch conservative activist to a openly abortionist-loving Romney fan.
Why are you trying to spin it otherwise?
you wish...
Us ex-mormons aren’t going away. I don’t care how many lies SD or any other pro-mormonism poster tells about us.
And yes SD, you’ve lied, you post lies, you run from the accountability about your lies.
We simply aren’t going away. We have the truth about mormonism on our side.
We don’t need to resort to lies or wishes, or unicorns and skittles, etc.
Wishing for something to be true isn’t going to make it so.
Happy Thanksgiving!
That too! ;^)
“The thread didnt start with any statement from me, did it?”
Didn’t say it did.
That’s why I included Duffy’s name in the ping as a reference.
The ‘you’ was simply a generic reference to anyone that would begin a thread that way.
But, this is your comment? Correct?
“This is a thread about the hypocrisy of Obama and Co. in seeking reelection. Our focus should be on the frightening aspect of a radical anti-American as POTUS.
That its turned into a religious thread shows just how effect Obama is. The circular firing squad is now in session.”
Your interpretation of WHY this thread was started is in stark contrast to the posters opening statement.
This comment BEGS for an argument...
“Obama’s strategy. It seems to be working quite well around here. We Mormons have been called a lot worse than “weird” here. “
NOT dialogue on Obama’s position or strategy..
Sometimes reading past the headline will give you a better understanding of the ‘intent’ of the poster.
