The LDS Church is politically neutral, as is MDL. Mormons hold elected office and positions of responsibility in both US political parties and various parties worldwide. When we respond to any issue regarding politics, we do so only to correct misinformation and misperceptions about the Church, not in an effort to promote a particular candidate or party.

Recently, Politico reported that part of President Obama’s 2012 reelection campaign strategy will be to portray Mitt Romney, a Mormon and possible Republican presidential nominee, as “weird.” The Politico report did not specifically tie the “weird” charge to Romney’s Mormon faith, but many commentators have speculated that is the logical application of such a strategy.

Commentators from various political perspectives have also condemned any such strategy. Blogger Jane Hamsher wrote: “To preach religious tolerance as Obama does, and then engage in this kind of appeal to religious bigotry, is both hypocritical and pernicious, not to mention self-defeating…As the economy gets worse, people better be really careful about stoking tribalist rage against any minority.” Researcher and author Glenn Stanton agreed: “Yes, you can be pretty sure that it will be his Mormon faith where most of the ‘weirdness’ innuendos will land. And this from a president who had to finally and reluctantly distance himself from his own faith heritage.” Former presidential speechwriter David Frum noted: “The attacks will tiptoe up to the line of outright anti-Mormon bigotry.” In Time, political reporter Michael Crowley summed it up: “You’d like to think that the people who work for a man who has been slurred countless times because of his race would take a higher road.”

I am familiar with both testaments, the Book of Mormon and several other religious texts. People have free choice despite what the churches say. The good or bad they do is their own and it is not up to a preacher to define it as bad because it is not of his church. The scorecard is between them and God.

We simply get to choose if the behavior of the candidate is such that we want him in the office he seeks.

I choose not to put good and bad tags on people because they don’t pray my way. I do base my decision on how honorable they have been in their past dealings. You need to make your decision on what ever criteria is important to you.

Yes the offshoot LDS sect of mormonism claims that the book of mormon written by FLDS/LDS "Prophet" Joe Smith is the "most correct of any book on earth", AND that Smith's "Retranslation" of the ENTIRE bible (JST) is fraudulent, so they use the "mistranslated" bible God(s) told Smith not to use instead.

Don’t take offense of the Romney threads. While there are the bigots who don’t like Romney because of his religion, most here here don’t like Romney because of his politics, & believe it or not, because they don’t feel he represents Mormon’s very well. Kind of a lesser version of Reid.

You have no way of counting the viewers of any one FR thread nor if they agree with the information posted. There are new sign-ups every day, and just because FReepers do not comment on a thread is not a method of whether they actually read the information.

Consider that Benson was a good patriotic GUY but a FALSE PROPHET, just liek SMITH, YOUNG and MONSON. It's really the ONLY EXPLANATION when you seriously look at the facts. Romney will DESTROY our constitution, nto save it.
