Country music gets its due at the Obama White House next week.
The Obamas will play host to a string of country stars legendary and contemporary Monday at their seventh In Performance at the White House program.
Among those performing Monday night: Lauren Alaina, The Band Perry, Dierks Bentley, Alison Krauss, Kris Kristofferson, Lyle Lovett, Mickey, Darius Rucker and James Taylor.

One of my favorites, as well. Alison Krauss seems to have a very wide appeal. It is entirely possible that that the Obamas actually are fans of her music.
Of course, they could just be inviting AKUS because she grew up in Illinois.
She seems to be the real deal. Reference fellow freepers, http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1305407/posts
The other night late I caught the last half of a Motown performance at the White Hut. It was well done, well produced and mercifully short closeups of Dumbo and Moochelle. Lots of recognizable DC types in attendance.
Might as well check it out - you paid for it. Very nice Smokie Robinson piece - worth it. I guess it is good to be king.
No one on the list I’d refer to as “legendary”.
Wait, you mean Chris Gaines is a liberal? Say it ain’t so!
Kris Kristoferson. Big Lib. At a concert in Colorado, he dissed Bush and the war in between songs. Very inappropriate.
I left.
NASCAR and country music. Sounds like Obama’s reelection team is trying to target Middle America. Hopefully people have enough horse sense to know a phonus balonus when they see one.
I wish all the singers and actors would just keep their mouths shut about politics.....they ruin my taste for their music and their acting when they speak out.

Well as a huge country music fan I’m glad to see that no real country artists are going to appear. It’s not like he’s hosting Jody Nix and the Texas Cowboys, Amber Digby and Midnight Flyer or Landon Dodd and the Dancehall Drifters...
I don’t know the politics o anyone except Kristoferson (sic,,,I don’t care how he spell it) - he is extremely to the left. I liked his music but get that comity taste in my mouth whenever I hear about him. I just asked Mr. hummingbird to get me an antacid.
“Sounds like Obamas reelection team is trying to target Middle America.”
He’s trying to target “white America”; I’m sure he knows he won’t be getting many white votes next fall. “White guilt” is dead...
I can’t cast guilt by association on this one, unless I hear it from the horses mouth. Garth Brooks, Merle Haggard, and the Ditsy Chicks come to mind.
As far as James Taylor is concerned; I guess that appearing with Alison Krauss and the Zac Brown Band makes you a country singer.
These artists may be honoring the symbolism rather than the symbol.
very funny send up of “Big Rock Candy Mountain”! Did that ever run on TV? :)
And was that before or after his Hootie days??
