Germans don’t screw up often, but when they do ... it’s a doozy!

No speed limits?

How do the police support the cities costs?

I remember taking driver’s ed in high school, the teacher warned us driving in fog is just as dangerous as snow, sometimes more so, here’s proof. Every winter along I-5 through the Central Valley in CA there’s some pretty nasty fog-related pileups

Actually some parts of the Autobahn, around the larger cities do have strictly enforced speed limits.

There were SURVIVORS? I can remember when I was in Germany, there weren’t usually a lot of survivors in these kind of things.

God help ‘em.

For a short while my brother drove a big rig, I got to ride with him for a bit. At one point it was night, foggy, showy/rainy and the vehicles were moving kind of fast for visibility being almost nothing.

I wasn’t sleepy at all. lol.

Actually there is a two-edged sword on that. Yes, in the open rural areas there is no speed limit yet you can be given a ticket for ‘too fast for conditions’ (rain/snow/fog). This little gem is at the discretion of the Polizei that pulled you over. Don't try to fight it in court, you're wrong and the officer is right (personal experience, and expensive one at that.) In the urban areas and in the cities the speed limit is generally posted at 70km/h to 120km/h.

Correct, no speed limits. They are *much* better drivers than we are (on average of course). Not sure on your 2nd question.

I realize this is not funny but all I could think of was “52-card Pick Up” your older sibling would pull on you as a kid.

Get caught screwing up while driving over there just once and you'll understand.

The part I like best regarding German traffic law is that people are obligated to move over when approached from the rear. That requirement is mandatory for fast driving speeds.

I wish that law either in place (or enforced) here.

It's the law in Colorado. You can only drive in the right lane on the interstates. The left lane is for passing ONLY. I don't have personal experience with the enforcement, but I would imagine they take advantage of it, especially against out-of-staters.

go as fast as you want......but change lanes without signaling, you better take out a mortgage.
....plus the cost of getting your license is high

I remember driving in Germany, with fog so thick I could not see 10 feet and looking up seeing stars.

So once I was driving on a winding back road in Mass. and a soupy fog quickly set in. Suddenly, I realized I was driving by about sixty bicyclists on the side of the road! I stopped and screamed for them to get off the road! No one can see you! Only grace saved them from being run over! It took a while for me to get my never up to creep on home.

"Tule Fog"....scares the hell out of me. We were invited to do Christmas up in Sacramento, and that condition bore strength in our decision to take a pass...
