The sample size was 17504. It's a huge demographic analysis best viewed at the source, IMHO.

Prior exit polls for 2006 and 2008 quantified moderates at 47 and 44 percent, respectively. I just posted an article based on the November 2011 Battleground Poll that said 2 percent were moderate. So, I went looking for this exit poll, and this question: "On most political matters, do you consider yourself," about a third of the way down the page. It was 20 percent liberal, 38 percent moderate and 42 percent conservative.

Rats have held about a steady 20 %. Moderates have lost about 10%, and conservatives are up about 10% since the 2006 exits polls. My earlier link has the 2006 and 2008 exit polls linked.

The more conservatives preach and teach, the larger our numbers grow.

The Tea Party is responsible for educating many Americans on the founding documents, principles and beliefs that made this country great and can do so again.

You saw a similar uptick in conservatives during/after Reagan.

Male (48%) 41%D 55%R
Female (52%) 48%D 49%R

Repeal the 19th amendment? ;d

I’ve always found it interesting that both high school dropouts and people with post-graduate degrees tend to vote rat leaving the GOP in the middle of the education spectrum.

This is another poll with conservative coming in #1, moderate #2 and liberal #3. 13% of self-identified “conservatives” voted democrat. 11% of tea-party supporters did the same. 8% of those voting to “send a message in favor of the Tea Party movement” voted rat. 26% of those who think Congress’ “highest priority” should be cutting taxes voted rat.

23% of people with a negative opinion of the GOP voted Republican to only 10% of people with a negative option of the dems voting dem.

3% of people are “enthusiastic” about the federal government. I’m curious if this correlates with incidence of schizophrenia or something,

It does with the incidence of psychopaths. Without Conscience.

Hey, I resemble that!

I found the high school dropout/post-graduate Rat tendency intriguing as well. Not sure why that is other than that the highest concentration of post-graduate people lie in college and university communities and those tend to lean heavily left.

Your observation about how many people who profess to be conservatives vote against their supposed principles is maddening. Whassup with that?

Only explanation, other than schizophrenia, that I can come up with are that they may be socially conservative (southern rural, e.g.), but they still support unions and like their gubmint handouts. Murtha's district or some of those NC or districts (8, 11, 13) come to mind. WV as well. The deep south seems to have seen the light, although Landrieu and her ilk should become extinct.

There are plenty of folks who like to have their cake and eat it too and succumb easily to the "throw granny down the stairs" propaganda-even conservatives succumb.

But the key to the 2010 win is that the moderates/independents voted GOP as a vote AGAINST Obama. I'm waiting to see indications that Obama has lost them for good or that the GOP has gained them for good. A combination of both would be disaster for the Rats in 2012. Too early to tell yet.

“...and people with post-graduate degrees tend to vote rat...”

Many of them have “god” (lower case on purpose) complexes, think Arec Barwin in “Malice” - “I am god!”

Are there really any surprises in these polling results at all? About the only possible one is that the more elderly voters (65+) apparently voted most strongly for the GOP congressional candidate. So overall, they didn’t buy into the ‘Rats’ Social Security and “MediScare” campaign theme.
