University police tore down tents at UC Davis yesterday afternoon, arresting 8 students in the process, Xeni Jardin of Boing Boing reports. At one point, to clear a path to reach students that they had already arrested, they pepper-sprayed a line of seated, quiet protesters. This video, which shows the pepper-spraying, is going viral. This comment, from venture capitalist Chris Sacca, sums up what lots of people who watch it are thinking: Seriously. Right now. Stop what you are doing, watch this video, and reflect on what it means to be American.

'Civil' disobedience has legal consequences, except for lefty protestors and lefty authorities.
Is there any Tea Party event in any way comparable? Make the case for equivalence...everyone who has tried thus far has been shown to be a fool, but maybe you'll impress.
The right to free speech is not absolute...and there's a huge difference between being entitled to speech, and being entitled to an audience.
Name ONE republican college students did such a thing.
You admit you don't like cops. Fine. But don't drag law abiding citizens into it.
Your arguments contain nothing but "if's". If it happens, then by all means report it.
That is not the issue! Stop making it about who did. That is what libs do.
Lets say the college republicans want to protest the School performing abortions on campus as part of a clinic or some bs and did this and got sprayed. Would you be upset over it?
Simple question.
Again with the “ifs”! Your cop hating seems to have you living in the world of “ifs”.
There have been many many pro life demonstrations. Not ONCE have they been peppered.
Again, I cannot live in your “if” world. It’s bad enough living in reality.
Have they? And if so, what happened?
Simple question.
Forget it - you are clueless in incapable of any reason. Go cheer on the police state and thinking naively it will never be used on yourself. Ignorance is trully bliss. These cops are doing this at the behest of who again?
Who wants OWS broken up more than anyone? Guess who?
You are absolutely right!
That is why their claim to be the 99% is valid - only in a way they don't mean.
The truth is that 99% of them are useful idiots of one sort or another. They blindly fall in line for the 1% who have designed the "Occupy" strategy, financed it, hired the key people to seed and organize the local movements, and tested the 99% to see how easily they could be herded.
Then like moths to a flame the 99% gathered; some for fun, some out of anger, some for the sex, some to be part of a "happening" and some just to get out of mom's basement for a while.
The people with money and power have now tested their template, strategy and tactics and found out what they wanted to know about attracting and herding the useful idiots. They will now let the movement die down for the winter and start it up once again next spring whan the republican campaign starts to accelerate.
The student brats probably would not be squatting on the sidewalk for long.
UNLESS the public gets educated and learns about this false movement so that when it rears its ugly head again, they are prepared for it.

Forbes is not some left wing rag.
You call ME clueless when you live in a world of “ifs”???
Please. I have been to many many Tea Parties and not ONCE have we ever been peppered.
Even before the Tea Party, I was involved with GOE in DC and guess what? We didn’t get sprayed then either!
WE HAD PERMITS! WE WERE EVEN ALLOWED TO BLOCK THE HIPPIES FROM WALKING THROUGH OUR PERMITTED AREA.....WITH POLICE BACKUP!
Their pepper spay didn’t work...Watch the video, they had to drag them away.
Yup....the photo of the cops spraying sitting people is what the idiots wanted.
And we can't only be outraged when something wrong is done to us - for example the Germans in the 1930s and 1940s.
And the hard working Americans trying to keep their heads above water are APPALUSING the action. Actually, we want a little more. At least I do.
I support protests, even those I disagree with. But the sidewalk belongs to everyone. The protesters are infringing on the rights of others. I understand that they were asked to move. They could have moved to where the rest of the protesters were and would have been fine. They made a choice and received the consequences.
B.S. The judge sided with Bloomberg.
They have the right to FREE SPEECH.
They don’t have the right to OCCUPATION.
They are working to occupy businesses.
What’s to stop them from Occupying Fat Cats houses in New York... those they deem unworthy of their 1% of wealth?
They will keep ramping this up, testing you, bit by bit, until you become immune to their tactics. Then, one day, you’ll wake up surprised to see that they have pitchforks and torches and are coming after YOU TOO. You are NOT immune. They don’t care about your rights or your liberty. They want to take what is yours. They won’t just be STUDENTS.
They are MARXISTS. They have already morally crossed the line. I can see the future and I know what they want. It’s what they always want, my blind allegiance to Marxism, or my blood.
Yeah ok, like the two have anything to do with each other.
Again....you CANNOT provide ANY facts for your “ifs”.
You dear, are the one who is clueless.
IF the college Republicans "did this" -- illegally blocked the free movement of other citizens and repeatedly refused to obey lawful orders to move along -- they would deserve to be pepper sprayed. But college Republicans and Tea Party protesters don't engage in illegal activities, which is why they don't get pepper sprayed.
The only alternative to anarchy is prompt and certain enforcement of laws that protect law-abiding citizens and facilitate a civil and productive society. Rudy Giuliani proved this as NYC Mayor -- a lesson since reinforced by Michael Bloomberg's naive accommodation of lawless public behavior.
I have no sympathy for these so-called "protesters" who engage in lawless behavior. The police politely ordered them to move along, and they refused. Then the police repeated the lawful order, and they still refused. Repeated orders were met by a continued refusals -- along with defiant speech and physical behavior that constituted a clear challenge to the rule of law. If you were responsible for defending the civil society against anarchy and mayhem, would you do nothing and thus forfeit the rights of the productive, law-abiding citizenry?
When challenged, a society must defend itself in order to survive. And make no mistake, OWS and its alliance of anarchists and communists constitute a direct challenge to our free society. Pepper spray is very uncomfortable, but it is far milder than the equally-legitimate options of batons, water cannons and horses. The police have legitimate and proper roles in society, and we just witnessed one of them.
