With Newt Gingrich continuing to surge in the polls, plenty of stories are bubbling to the surface, including things from the distant past. And lets face it Newt has been knocking around US politics for an awfully long time, with tales of many of his exploits being told and retold until they pass into legend. Of course, you know what they say about legends.
[countable] an old story about famous people and events in the past. Legends are not usually true
One of the more nasty ones is the persistent tale of how Newt went to see his wife as she lay dying of cancer in her hospital bed and presented her with divorce papers. Ouch. Thats a pretty unpleasant story to float about anyone, and apparently its so temptingly salacious that it keeps getting hinted at in the media and Ive seen it cropping up again on Twitter as recently as last night. Unfortunately for the gossip minded, nearly every aspect of the story is false and has been roundly debunked by what should be considered a pretty reliable source his own daughter who was in the hospital room at the time. This deserves repeating:
“Those who raise this issue with a self-righteous echo will actually help Newt overcome the stigma, because so many Americans are very well acquainted with the darker side of divorce and not a few well acquainted with forgiveness.”
Gosh darn it! That Obama is so darn lovable /s
So do I!...we must.
Newt has not been a shinning light in the matrimony department - however whatever he was seeking he seems to have found it. Which would you rather have a Barney Frank or a Newt Gingrich? Replete with his decampment's, I believe Newt has grown up - watching him very carefully as he would be the most learned president in recent history, far an above what the nation has now...Newt is a man who understands and supports our Constitution and loves his country....worthy of our consideration.
I don’t think it’s because of the overall weakness of the field but because many folks realize its time for someone who is serious, has a good understanding of history and who can get things done.
Awww, it can’t be a myth! Richard Belzer said it on Law and Order SVU! /s
Too many of we Americans dive too deeply into careers, so much so that we do not take greater care and cherish the marriage as we strive to succeed. Yes, it is grounded in a type of selfishness. It is also how we open ourselves to the temptations which inevitably arise as the sex drive occasionally out pushes the success drive. As the divorce stats in America support, this had caused a too large number of marriage s to fail. That is a summation of what divorce in America is about.
Newt Gingrich became too deeply committed to succeeding in his career and drift away from a troubled marriage ... how else to describe a marriage joined by a teacher and her younger student? Would that real American men and women would look carefully at the lessons here, and decide that saving their marriage is more important to the health of them and their children and spouse. But alas, this nation is not there.
Marriages fail for a variety of reasons. At the heart of failed marriage is ego. Newt has a huge ego. Frankly, that is one of the aspects which will suit him well in his determination to restore this nation from the brink of European socialism now looming large in our immediate future.
Newt's marriage particulars are much less dangerous than the state of the nation, so I have chosen to set aside that aspect of his life. You can choose to focus upon that if you need to. You have a sovereign vote. But if Newt is not the President in 2013, there is a real likelihood that you will lose that sovereign vote in the future the democrats have planned and the enemy fifth column media is abetting.
The democrat machine has offered up a trap meant to re-elect their socialist leadership --not just Obama, but more democrats in House and Senate. If they can get conservatives assassinating the Republican candidates over character issues common to all humankind, there will be no momentum in November 2012 and no competent candidate to oppose little barry socialist bassturd.
With the country facing almost certain financial and perhaps societal collapse who in their right mind would want to be president? The next president is going to have to face terrible choices. We really are going to need a miracle maker in the white house come 21013. Don't believe me? Watch what happens when the super committee report next week. That will be the first of many shoes to drop.
We conservatives can see that Rick Perry, or Herman Cain, or Newt Gingrich, or even Michelle Bachmann or Rick Santorum can do a better cnservative job than the current commie-in-chief. and electability is a looming problem, especially with we conservatives doing the dirty work of assassinating the character of each f our own candidates. I have just chosen to set aside the category of personal marital problems because I see Newt as havign the only actually written down for all to contemplate plan to resotre American exceptionalism and perhaps crush the three enemies of We The People America: economic indenture; military fecklessness, and secular humanist rot.
Yes, you are correct...and the code word will be "hypocrisy."
You have got to be kidding me!!! Newt has been one of the most vilified political figures in modern history.(vilified by the liberal MSM)The only folks who have received more "scrutiny from the press" may be Clarence Thomas, Sarah Palin or Robert Bork.
Baggage? Did he smoke crack and sleep with a man?
Is he using a false SS# and Birth Certificate?
Is he hiding his school records?
Did he vote present more than yea or nay when he was in the legislature?
Is he coddling muslim terrorists and demonizing gun owning, god-fearing americans?
Is squashing energy production in the form of pipelines and offshore wells?
NO ONE in the field has ANY baggage compared to the Zero, therefore, baggage will be immaterial in this election. We are driving toward the edge of a precipice. Who can turn the bus around?
What I really want to see is for him to (1) sue them (2) win judgement (3) get damages of $1,000,000 or more (4) make them publish a grovelling apology (5) all before the election. Dreams are wonderful!
Pretending otherwise is wishful thinking.
But my other point stands - what does Newt's lack of self-control in his personal life tell us about how he would function as president? Newt's antics go well beyond having one marriage go bad, getting divorced and then remarrying.
I am speaking to this current election.
Newt has seen zero scrutiny, nor has Romney.
Frankly, I'm a sinner. If I accept the left's definition of hypocrisy then I cannot condemn their devilish agenda. Sorry, I won't allow them to define the words and the issues on their twisted secular terms. If you're a true conservative Christian, you shouldn't either.
I'm very much a sinner. I'm also very much forgiven, based upon the Promises of God found in the Grace of God in Christ.
LOL
lotsa ‘stone casters’ here !
Thank you for a moment of clarity.
The city dog catcher should be able to out shine Obama on electability.
We need to pick the candidate that can get things done.
How can conservatives trust him to be good to them after the way he treated multiple wives?...I am talking about the affairs. This will all come out when the media starts really focusing on him, and I don't think it will be pretty.
Also, when he is not under the pressure of an election, he has shown to go way left. He has been talking fiscal conservatism, but the way he gave energy to the left by trashing the Ryan economic plan is quite revealing. Not to mention the endorsement of Scozzafava in an election where conservatives (tea party) were trying to send a message, was a sucker punch to conservatives.
The people aquainted with the “darker side” are usually the women who were dumped unceremoniously by a man who decided to trade them in for a younger, prettier model.
I’m not sure those women are going to sympathize with Newt Gingrich for having to “suffer through” two divorces, any more than we feel bad for the kids who killed their parents and are now orphans.
We need to keep our eye on the ball.
