I hear people talking about in the event of martial law, there is this group of kindly old gentlemen who go door to door to ask for donations...

OK. That’s not what I hear. I hear prophecies about armed people going door to door and seizing things.

I’m having a hard time seeing that happening, even if the “law” allows it.

Just way, way, way too much mortality. Americans are very well armed.

If there was a Road Warrior scenario when all a sudden like we wake up and the store shelves are bare, I would bet that within ten days, the population would be DOWN BY ONE THIRD!

And 99% of them would be various raiders and looters and ne’er do wells.

Yes, the military would be involved. But they would have their hands over-full just dealing with the cities and protecting the infrastructure stuff. (Power plants, hospitals, etc, etc, etc)

As Sipsey in “Fried Green Tomatoes” said, “The secret’s in the sauce.”

Could you hold off a Swat Team?

Why do you think that local police and sheriff depts have, systematically for years, been given free military equipment and vehicles - many, even tanks - and extra funds to maintain SWAT Teams? It won't be our 'military' for door to door. It will be SWATS.

And if you know history, and are watching the news, you'll know that there will be plenty of people who would, enthusiastically, don the helmets and grab the big guns and play Nazi against their neighbors.

The prudent thing is to not have storage goods where they can be easily found. Maybe a little stash they can find and think they cleaned you out, but down through the ages, wise people know how to secure survival goods.

I think you are right. The other scenerio mentioned a lot is that those of us that live in the boonies will be invaded by those fleeing the cities. I imagine that will happen, but I am not sure there will be as many that will be capable of getting to the real boonies as most think. If things happen gradually many will sit and wait for things to get better instead of leaving. If things fall apart suddenly the chaos in the cities, no fuel, tons of traffic, violence- if people can’t just get in their car and have the fuel and open roads to drive out many could not get to the boonies- especially if for any reason they couldn’t take their vehicle...just couldn’t make it. I am over 100 miles from a city of any size and that is across desert and in the summer it would be a real challenge.

Those of you that plan to bug out of a city for another location if things get bad might want to make sure you and your family are all physically fit enough and have enough basic survival skills and the items you will need to make it where you plan to go...without transportation if need be.
