Sarah Palin Gets Subversive
Forbes ^ | November 18, 2011 | John McQuaid,

Posted on 11/18/2011 3:45:18 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

None of us can pretend to know what motivates Sarah Palin to do what she does. Sure, there’s money. And attention. And more money and attention. But today’s Palin op-ed goes in a different direction. Palin moves away from the pure cultural populism that has defined her since her run for the vice presidency and back toward the reformist populism that characterized her time as governor of Alaska. She turns her resentment away from cultural elites and focuses it on political elites of both parties, arguing – sensibly! – that being elected to Congress admits one to a veritable merry-go-round of special interest wealth and influence-peddling. She proposes reforms and even gives a shout-out to both the tea party and Occupy Wall Street movements:

“No more sweetheart land deals with campaign contributors. No gifts of IPO shares. No trading of stocks related to committee assignments. No earmarks where the congressman receives a direct benefit. No accepting campaign contributions while Congress is in session. No lobbyists as family members, and no transitioning into a lobbying career after leaving office. No more revolving door, ever.

This call for real reform must transcend political parties. The grass-roots movements of the right and the left should embrace this. The tea party’s mission has always been opposition to waste and crony capitalism, and the Occupy protesters must realize that Washington politicians have been “Occupying Wall Street” long before anyone pitched a tent in Zuccotti Park."

What’s surprising about this: Palin really is going it alone here. Among the major Republican presidential candidates and party establishment, and even tea party activists, this type of economic and good government populism barely exists....

She’s right and it’s informative.
So what.
Does it help us keep Obama from dismantling our great nation with a second term. No.
Who is Sarah Palin now?
I haven’t a clue.
I have no idea what her plans are but I do know she’s been MIA for a while now. Is she waiting for us dimwits who keep throwing our own candidates under the bus to be left with no one other than Romney and THEN run (I) or (R)? I don’t know but I doubt it. We’d better get busy focusing on rooting for all our candidates until one is left and remember the enemy is Obama, not our candidates.

He get’s suspended regularly. He’ll be back.

He has to be my least favorite poster. But it appears that management has a soft spot for him.

Maybe she is MIA because she’s studying world affairs and her weak points?

Well, that's what many here hoped for last summer. Their wish came true. Now I'm waiting for them to complain that she's...wait for it...MIA.

Maybe the rest of the field could profit by doing likewise?

Maybe somebody filed another frivolous lawsuit.

There's a word for your act.

Shallow.

No, she won’t go through another VP campaign. If Newt offered her Interior Secretary with shutting down the Dept. of Energy as part of her job description, she may be temped to accept. But she would turn it down. She said in her last interview that she can effect more change in Washington, D.C. from the outside.

Look at how the term “crony capitalism” is now a staple of the debate.

To those guys on the stage, "crony capitalism" is just a phrase they'll throw out hoping to garner those voters. They don't have any intentions of making it a part of any agenda should they become the president.

But the fact that they are forced to use the phrase means that it is already having some effect.

And it won't stop there. Look at what she wrote most recently, calling for specific measures to clean up congress. Truly great stuff.

I don’t think she’s reconsidering for this election, but I think she wants to get back into the political mainstream and will probably run for office in her new state or possibly for legislative office. That might position her for a future run.

Palin will never seek legislative office, ain't gonna happen.

Well, our side does have too much exposure from the media caused by too many debates.

Just wait.... any reforms congress makes to curtail crony capitalism will not affect them. However, it’s likely to take away more of our freedoms. Remember Campaign Finance Reform? etc

One of the reforms she’s calling for is to extend the Freedom of Information Act to congressional offices. If they are forced to do that, it will definitely affect them.

Reform does happen.

Don’t be such a pessimist.

There are too many indicators pointing to your opinion being a very likely outcome of what is going only. Not by happenstance but a long standing plan by Obama.

The OWS increasingly anarchic activity appears to be the basis for a future declaration of an emergency and as violence erupts (as planned) declaration of martial law and suspension of civil rights and of elections.

While apparently speculative, this is simply connecting the dots that have appeared and visible to those who have had to function in similar situations in other countries but totally invisible to Americans who have not.

With the Iran situation poised to alter the whole scenery, other possibilities and likely scenarios exist, though the Iran backlash on our and the global economy could well be used to declare martial law as everything spins out of control and can naturally or in a guided fashion become the reason for Obambi implementing his back up tactic of martial law.

Should for any reason Obama not be able to implement his strategy, Sarah Palin can take her choice of any senior position in any Republican administration so she really does not have to run for the top post to influence the direction of our country. And then return for it in four years.

Assuming, of course (smile) the Mayan calendar predictions and Australian scientific analysis of solar winds frying our planet and making all this moot.

Brings to mind the song “Don’t worry, be happy”.

There might not be anything we can do about that size of a natural disaster. We CAN deal with pretty much anything Obama throws at us, though he could create a scorched earth position where nothing survives for very long. Probably him going down with everyone else.

I would have voted for Sarah Palin but will settle for Gingrich brains and Cain’s personality if need be.

I am afraid you are right. There are bigger concerns than the 2012 election. What happens if we have another 1931? People forget that it was only after the summer of 1931, when Britain went off the gold standard, that the whole thing blew up, and we were on the path to World War. We could be up to 25% unemployment by the next election.

Go volunteer for Mitt or something.

He doesn't need volunteers, he has magic underpants.

Maybe he'll let you rinse them out or something.

A new show? A new effort to jerk around supporters? Tell us, do, what she's reconsidering! If I send money will she tell me?

Actually, during the time Palin was considering her run, Palin turned down a TV show, she made few paid speeches, she didn't write any new books, and she was not being paid from the proceeds of the movie.

Yet you think she was jerking around supporters?

To what end?

BTW, Palin isn't a potential candidate anymore. She isn't running.

Perhaps your time might be better spent trouble shooting our current group of pathetic candidates.
