Mitt Romney may be the GOP presidential candidate that is most often criticized for flip-flopping , but as Newt Gingrich rises to challenge him at the top of the polls, the former House speaker may also be giving him a run for his money on that label of inconsistency.
When it comes to global warming, Gingrichs position seems to have changed faster than the climate.
...
In the more than 30 years since Gingrich was first elected to the House, he has said there is both sufficient evidence to prove the climate is changing and also that there is no conclusive proof. He supported a cap-and-trade program to limit carbon emissions and then later testified against it before a Congressional committee.
And while in the House he co-sponsored a bill that said climate change was resulting from human activities, but he later said he did not know if humans were to blame.
There is no compelling evidence on either side to either rule it out or rule in it, Gingrichs spokesman R.C. Hammond said of the candidates position on global warming and the impact of man-made pollution. But at the end of the day hes somebody who does care about the environment.
DiPeso said the Republican orthodox position on climate change is that you cant deal with this issue because it will kill the economy.
Its politically dangerous for prominent Republicans to acknowledge climate change is real and that human activity plays a prominent role, he said. It could be that Gingrich is just trying to play a political game and stick with the political orthodoxy to keep himself from being vulnerable to attacks.
DiPeso added: Its not the first time hes done that and its probably not going to be the last.

Trotting out the Golden-Oldies just ain’t going to Get-R-Done. If they want to derail this guy they’ll need a BOMBSHELL. Something salacious or illegal maybe... Otherwise...
ZZZZZZZZ
It was going on in the stone age, so what does that tell you? Newt is kaput!
So true. And also put on his usual pompous air and act like you're an expert. People will fall for it even though (or because) they don't even know what he's talking about.
All I know is that things aren’t going to get better or any easier on the immigration front if we let it slide another 10 years. I’m not so sure we aren’t past the tipping point already.
After all, 30 million plus illegals creates nearly 50 congressional districts based on census counts alone. They grow government just by being here.
Imagine how much better things would be if we had 50 fewer congressional districts (Primarily democrat)
Newt is the consumate Washington insider and deal maker. That’s exactly the ones we want to get rid of. Oh wait. Newt isn’t in office any more. That’s the best thing Newt has going for him. He’s out! Let’s keep him out!
That’s the way I look at it. Getting rid of the perpetual politicians is one of the issues that drew me to the tea parties.
Maybe if we had better options...
+1 Long-Live the American Idol Generation! /sarc
People can change their long-standing beliefs, but when a Presidential Candidate does it in the year or close to when they are running for President, I take notice.
Speaking of which, I now see how McCain could have been more popular with the Newtbots. If during 2008 McCain had:
(1) Disowned McCain-Feingold and called it his greatest mistake ever
(2) Disowned working with Teddy Kennedy on Immigration Reform, and spoke of an “aboslutely no amnesty approach”
(3) Disowned supporting Cap-and-Tax with Lindsey Lohann Graham
(4) Reversed course and supported DOMA Federal Amendment defining marriage....
Then these Newtbots would have cheered for McCain too, because even though there’s nothing in McCain’s record that would have backed up his “change of heart” on these issues, the fact he said it would be could enough for them.
TRUST....but VERIFY. A Reagan lesson some Newtbots fail to remember.
Maybe if you did not have a welded shut mind you would know we do.
FYI the jury is still out on GW, just saying.
Interesting to note that the Anti Newt posters at least restrict themselves to discussing the facts where the Newtbots fraudulent write their own opinions into the body of the article trying to pass their smear attack at Cain off as part of the story.
That’s rich...
MNJohnnie is delusional, a lot of newt supporters DEFENDED Cain on SH thing. Newt DEFENDED Cain on that issue too. Yet MNJohnnie attacks and smears Newt and his supports at every possible opportunity. He is quite frankly out of his mind. Take your meds MNJohnnie, or the men in white suits will be knocking at your door.
Yes I know... And I really shouldn’t be entertaining him/this... It probably only serves to debase myself...
But sometimes I just find his stuff so bat-guano funny and ridiculous that I just can’t help myself... Besides I’m off today with nothing better to do.
I’ll go and work on some redeeming self-help stuff later... right after I take a nap...
If you have time please listen to Newt's interview with Mark Levin from yesterday. It focused mainly on AGW. The only conclusion I could draw was that Newt at his core can't let go of the believe that "man" contributes enough to Global Warming that it warrants government action.
Newt stated we need more government studies were needed -- I was flabbergasted. Mark could NOT get Newt to see that the entire movement is a leftist's attempt to control humans and commit legal plunder on a scale not seen in history.
While Newt would be orders of magnitude better than Mitt, I will not be under the illusion that he would turn our Republic towards Liberty. Newt at his core is a technocrat, who's first instinct is to see solutions driven by government. Newt doesn't seem to trust that market-capitalism would solve problems without government interference.
How convenient.
Don’t like your candidate’s position on liberal issues?
Try and make the issue more palatable.
I’m not buying it.
I know of very few true conservatives that bought man-made global warming.
Seems Newt isn't bother by the questions. Have to wonder why his worshipers around here are in such hysterics about them.
