RUSH: You know how you can tell that Newt Gingrich is at the top of the slate? You don't need polling data; you just need to look at the media coverage. You just need to look at the media coverage. You move on to the Republican primaries, Newt is rising so fast in the polls that the media is trying to tie him to Freddie Mac

Your buddy Rick Perry became remarkably wealthy as a career politician, amassing some improbably fortunate land deals. Do you think we haven’t noticed? Do you think the Democrats haven’t noticed?

Now, for the record, Newt has already responded to the accusations about his role in Freddie Mac a number of times. I think he's even mentioned it during the debates. He said that he was hired as a consultant, but that's a crime now. If you look at the headlines, you look at the news stories, Newt being a consultant to Fannie Mae is a crime, even though they love Fannie Mae. Even though they want Fannie Mae to sustain it, they want Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac to stay alive and kicking, Newt consults 'em and all of a sudden Newt's filthy, Newt's dirty, Newt's tainted. And of course what they're really going after is the fact that Newt's a hypocrite because the Republicans think that Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac are problems, put there's Newt taking money from 'em. Newt says that he told 'em that the housing market was a bubble that was about to burst. He told them that they were making a mistake handing out loans to people who couldn't afford them. Newt says he told them what they were doing wrong and what they needed to fix it and he did get his consultancy fee for it. If all that's true it's a shame they didn't listen to him. Doesn't matter what they paid him; it was good advice. Certainly better advice than what they've gotten from their own wildly overpaid executives. Certainly better advice than they've gotten from Obama. Don't forget to watch Newt on Greta's show tonight!

WOW!!!! Rush is right really hot on this today, this is good. Alas, the flames come out anyway, guess Rush is a liar as well? hmmmmmmmmmmm, don't think so.

Rush has been consistent in defending our candidates, when it is appropriate to do so.

I have hope that it will be Newt vs Obama. Krauthammer never thought Newt would even stand a chance in the polls...look...once the voters listen to Gingrich they like what they hear. No matter what the media says...it is what the candidates say that count. Newt will be on Greta’s show tonight...people can decide for themselves whether they believe him and support him or not. Should be a great interview

Hey, you think the same thing might apply here, too?

Really throw off all the naysayers and my-way-or-the-highway types.

“The shifting media has as their goal the blunting of the momentum now pushing the Tea Party wave. Sadly, we have a circular firing squad at FR doing the exact same thing, trashing every candidate, which will leave Milt Rominy as the default candidate and suppress conservative turnout, benefiting the DNC in down ticket spots and re-electing the commie now trying to abort the Republic.”

You are absolutely correct. It seems to me the Romney (and Perry people) have gone around trashing first Cain and now Gingrich.

Either candidate is fine with me. The truth is there is no perfect candidate running for President.

There are however 2 terrible candidates running Romney and Obama.

So should we just all get behind one Conservative then rather than discuss all of them?

Circular firing squads are hardly 'discussion clutches'. And no, we should not be getting behind one, YET. The ideal is to share as much as we can of the positives of each, then decide individually which we feel is best suited for the task at hand.

Character assassination isn't positive and the vitriol with which some posters attack the fellow freepers not supporting their choice does little to lift one candidate because it generates as much negative with readers witnessing the spectacle.

The destruction of momentum is what we get with so much personal assault trying to shut up the opposing views. Herman Cain is a good Christian man. I doubt seriously if he would endorse the hateful vitriol some of his 'supporters' use to try and shut up opposition or denigrate Perry supporters, and now insult Newt supporters. Isn't Freerepublic better than that? Do Freepers really want to tolerate such circular firing squad stupidity?

While it does get nasty, the reality is that if we don't talk about the negatives now, the MSM will definitely talk about them when the time comes. Do you hear the MSM making a big deal out of Romney being a Mormon? No, but God forbid he wins the primaries, you'll be hearing all kinds of stories about the Mormons on the nightly news. That's one example, but I can think of several issues for every candidate - Gingrich, Cain, Perry, etc. that would be dragged out front and center by the MSM.

If we could improve the atmosphere here for a while, we could do what is known as 'vetting' and find what the nedia will try to use on whomever is the nominee.

You mention LDS connections of Romney. On the Mormonism discussion threads the reality that very weird and disturbing aspects of Momronism as opposed to Christianity has been discussed ad infinitum. I doubt the media could raise somehting that has not been delved ... and perhaps the discussions have led media to some of the more astonishing stuff from Freerepublic threads. The media is lazy, and they have a socialist agenda to work for the DNC and destroy the opposition to the democrat criminal enterprise. The media need guillotine solutions, but it will not, alas, ever get there.

“Smear Macine Shifts to Newt”

So, what’s the big deal?

The press is Progressive, the White House is Progressive, the schools are Progressive, the Senate is Progressive and a large part of the electorate is Progressive.

Whatever the heck these people do is of no consequence because the pyshotic, pseudo-intellectual, adolescent Progressive punks are in ascendance; that’s what they do.

IMHO

odd how you were not bothered by the smear machine when you were busy around here pimping the smears at Cain

Odd how you lecture others about smearing Cain when you have joined the campaign against Newt.

And yeah, I know, you say you did such when others wouldn't stop smearing Cain. But that doesn't mean squat - if you truly believe in taking the 11th commandment route, you stay above the mudslinging.
