Circular firing squads are hardly 'discussion clutches'. And no, we should not be getting behind one, YET. The ideal is to share as much as we can of the positives of each, then decide individually which we feel is best suited for the task at hand.

Character assassination isn't positive and the vitriol with which some posters attack the fellow freepers not supporting their choice does little to lift one candidate because it generates as much negative with readers witnessing the spectacle.

The destruction of momentum is what we get with so much personal assault trying to shut up the opposing views. Herman Cain is a good Christian man. I doubt seriously if he would endorse the hateful vitriol some of his 'supporters' use to try and shut up opposition or denigrate Perry supporters, and now insult Newt supporters. Isn't Freerepublic better than that? Do Freepers really want to tolerate such circular firing squad stupidity?

While it does get nasty, the reality is that if we don't talk about the negatives now, the MSM will definitely talk about them when the time comes. Do you hear the MSM making a big deal out of Romney being a Mormon? No, but God forbid he wins the primaries, you'll be hearing all kinds of stories about the Mormons on the nightly news. That's one example, but I can think of several issues for every candidate - Gingrich, Cain, Perry, etc. that would be dragged out front and center by the MSM.
