Agreed, and even if you don’t know it by name, you should know of it. Hell I’ve never heard that term, but I have known that once the Cuban reaches the beach, he’s safe from deportation.

If he’d had any prep at all he should have known, and even if he didn’t know it by name, he could have asked for elaboration. I don’t have a problem not knowing a rote memorization fact at all times, but to call a cuba foreign policy question while in Florida (and a softball one at that) as a gotcha, is yet MORE proof this guys not remotely ready for the national spotlight.

I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again, like it or not, the republican primaries boil down to Romney and Not Romney.. and whoever is the last not romney standing will likely win the nomination. If what the press call “tea party” voters keep latching onto neophites and proping them up and actually do wind up getting one of them through as the Candidate they send the party down in flames in 2012.

Like it or not, there are 2 candidates in this race with any shot of winning the general election, of the pathetic field that it is. One is Romney, who I dispise, and have no love or support for at all, and find it disgraceful that this guys even on the ballot as an R. The other is Newt. New is not perfect, but he sure is a hell of a lot better in my mind than Romney.

I’d love to see some true experienced Reagan like candidate enter the fray, but like it or not, there isn’t one in this field, and isn’t going to be.

Tea Party bloc makes itself bound and determined to keep projecting onto second and third teir candidates qualities they want them to have, but just aren’t there, and by some chance get one of them through, the Presidential election is over before the confetti hits the floor of the convention hall, and Republicans will lose.

We can’t do what the Dems did in 08, we can’t put up a nobody with no real ability other than reading teleprompters.. The press isn’t going to carry water for our guy, he’s going to be attacked mercilessly at all times for all sorts of things.. His little mistakes will be reported as huge problems, they won’t look the other way. You only survive that if you put up someone who’s truly got the gravitas and ability to handle it... not pumped up faux gravitas involved fake columns and meaningless catch phrases and campaign slogans, but truly knows what they are talking about and able to talk about it as an adult and seriously.

That leaves you with Romney and Newt, Santorum possibly, but he’s not remotely the intellect of Newt, nor the likability of Romney (and I mean that in the general election sense, not the primary). He’s not gotten anywhere, and I honestly don’t think he will or should, but I guess if Newt collapses, which is always possible, but provided he keeps his temper I doubt it will, maybe they go there, and he winds up the non-romney candidate. Not sure he can win, but he’s definitely a step up from the Bachmann, Perry and Cain’s of the world.

Obviously anything can happen in politics, but way I see it stacking up, its Romney V Newt, with Newt getting the nod, and LORD do I look forward to those debates if Newt is the candidate.

I agree. He was such a refreshing individual - with appealing qualities. In another time perhaps; but the Nation is attempting to reverse the age of Obama - no moral compass, disgust, despair, impotence, loss of trust in elected officials in both parties and a ‘free press’ that has its own Marxist agenda.

With respect to Herman Cain’s black support - I received a chain email from a former black colleague (may have been a mistake) - The attachment was an Al Sharpton email slandering Herman Cain and his Republican supporters...desperate to prop up Obama in a racial diatribe. My blue eyes could not believe it.

Cain’s not merely uninformed, he’s just not ready for prime time at all. He wants the white house, go win a few elections first, then come back. This guy isn’t remotely ready for Washington or the national spotlight and it is more evident every time he opens his mouth.

If you were in the consulting business and was offered that deal would you take it?

What "deal"? Newt says he gave them history lessons. Freddie claims he lobbied for them. If you were a former Speaker of the House and Freddie Mac offered you a deal to lobby your former colleagues to kill a bill to regulate a government-backed entity, would you take it? And can you really compare this with a normal deal in the "consulting business"?

Sorry its not, you believe that you are naive. They are not remotely the same beasts. Name me one, one person to win the Presidency when they came to it with a resume that only contained “CxO” positions at companies.

They may be conceptually equivalent but they are not remotely the same. Private industry does NOT operate like government, it can’t, if it did it would go out of business. So being able to lead a private enterprise is not the same as attempting to lead a governmental agency.

If they were equivalent or even similar you’d see a hell of a lot more Political Science/Business double majors... they aren’t remotely the same beast.

I guess what troubles me is that he is a talk show host used to controlling the conversation and dispensing facts at a moments notice.

What happened?

What the heck makes you think Cain is clueless about that?

The guy calculated Chinese nuclear missile launches when he was working with the Navy.

When I watched the interview, I understood exactly what he meant by his statement concerning China developing nuclear weapons: He meant that they were trying to come up to America’s current levels of nuclear superiority.

Sure, I think he could have worded it a little more precisely for mass consumption; but, in context, it made perfect sense-—that is, unless, you are an idiot and know absolutely nothing about Herman Cain’s past and are stupid enough to actually believe the Lame Stream Media’s lie that Herman Cain didn’t know anything about China’s nuclear weapons.

Obviously, your ability to think clearly and do a little research on Herman Cain’s past is getting just a skosh clouded by the constant barrage of attacks by the Lame Stream Media in an effort to sell you on their Bismarck horse, Mitt Romney.

Don’t fall for the LSM spin, my friend, else I can guarantee you that you will be pulling that lever for Romney in 2012 while holding your nose.

Cheers

The notion that blacks in any sort of measurable numbers will abandon the Democratic plantation and vote republican just because our guy happens to be black is lunacy on its face. For crying out loud, blacks in West Virginia voted repeatedly at 80 and 90% or higher levels for Byrd for how long? A former Grand Kleagle for the KKK, and blacks sent him back to Washington with 9 out of 10 votes for GENERATIONS.

Thinking the color of our candidats skin will vastly change those numbers is beyond foolish.

If you run a consulting firm you don't turn down business. Freddie says he was a consultant not a lobbyist. If this bothers you wait till you find out what lawyers do. As to the other question where did you get the information that he lobbyed to kill a bill?

"does something completely different when he is in a position of power.

Your ignorance is amazing. Newt "when he was in power" governed as a conservative. In fact he was the most conservative Speaker of the House in my life time. Compare Newt as Speaker some time with Denny Hastard or our current speaker. Newt is far more conservative then both.

Then, when he asks for elaboration, as you think Mr. Cain should have, the media would be running that sound bite over and over and over again.

It’s a no win situation.

I’m a Cain supporter but I’m really getting disappointed in him not being on top of his game. He had 10 days notice before the harrassment charges were made public and he and his staff handled it pathetically. And all these questions that are catching him flat-footed, hell, even if you’re not famiiliar with a topic, at least say something. It would have been better had he said: “I’m not real familiar with that policy; fill me in on it briefly and I’ll give you an answer the best I can.” Don’t just copy Newt and use the phrase “Gotcha Question”.

I love you Herman but you are getting on my friggin’ nerves.

That’s the nature of a gotcha question. Herman nailed this one.

Sarah should have known that the Bush Doctrine meant no longer waiting to be attacked before taking military action. Or defending the concept of a preemptive war. I knew that, she should have. But that was no big deal for me. “Wet foot dry foot” is I think a better know policy then the Bush Doctrine, and it seems very foolish to go into a Cuban-American community and not have any idea of US immigration policy towards Cuba. I mean really, that’s like going to South Texas and having no idea about US immigration policy towards Mexican illegals.

Come on Herman. You should know that if you are campaigning in FL.

The wet foot, dry foot policy is the name given to a consequence of the 1995 revision of the Cuban Adjustment Act of 1966 that says, essentially, that anyone who fled Cuba and got into the United States would be allowed to pursue residency a year later. After talks with the Cuban government, the Clinton administration came to an agreement with Cuba that it would stop admitting people found at sea. Since then, in what has become known as the “wet foot, dry foot” policy, a Cuban caught on the waters between the two nations (i.e., with “wet feet”) would summarily be sent home or to a third country. One who makes it to shore (”dry feet”) gets a chance to remain in the United States, and later would qualify for expedited “legal permanent resident” status and U.S. citizenship.

Honestly, he should have known the term, who walks into florida and accuses a question about Cuban policy as a gotcha????

I personally wouldn’t find him saying Pardon? vs, “that’s a gotcha”

Seriously. The win is to not be so utterly not ready for prime time. Cain is getting vetted out, and properly so, by showing he is not remotely ready or up to the task.

No he didn’t, he flubbed it big time.. if you think his actions in this are “nailing” the question, you are really naive. This was a SOFTBALL question, and one he should have prepared for. He wasn’t walking into a area full of croations, and being asked “Who’t the prime minister of myramar”.. he walked into a area full of Cubans and got a softball about the most widely known policy that exists with Cuba, and called it a gotcha?

This guy’s just not baked folks, nice enough guy, not nowhere near ready to be the top dog.
