Newt Gingrich's stumble out of the campaign gate -- causing him to lose his top advisors to Rick Perry -- might well be the best thing that has ever happened to his political career. That, along with his debate performances and a handful of other circumstances, explains why the former speaker of the House is now surging in the polls and why it is likely to continue.

Frankly anyone on the AIG top donation list is off my list. Nothin but a rogue’s gallery.
Stupid strategy. You have no understanding as to how a company places their bets to hope a candidate will “protect them or do them favors”. Rush covered this Tuesday or Wednesday. Look, any candidate got to where they are without a pristine journey. Our side is very guilty to our country’s detriment of looking for a pristine candidate. It is the same way Islam uses our side to take over our country. Paul said be shrewd, a Godly shrewd. I am paraphrasing. If it was good enough for Paul, it is good enough for us. Remember how Paul told the Greeks the statue of the unknown god was the one he was talking about? That is smart. We need to be smarter.

Go ahead, you can actually admit that you support him. I have made that decision myself.
Newt has substance. That fact is undeniable. It is also undeniable that the voters are now looking for that attribute in a candidate as well. The personal past and private life is no longer important. There is too much at stake this time around.

Perhaps. But he does a better job handling the media and can more quickly make a policy argument than anyone up there. He runs circles around Cain, Bachmann, and Perry. No one can stand next to him and argue on policy matters with the exception of perhaps Romney. I think Republicans are yearning for someone who can actually stand up and leave them confident he can deliver the party platform without falling over himself.
He is very vulnerable with his past deals with the devil in both dealings with Democrats and in personal dealings. His biggest achilles heal? Pride. That biggest of sins.
His weight will also be a negative against him, especially against a trim Obama.
A RINO? Perhaps. He’s made some of those moves. He’s also made moves that were very conservative. We shall see.

Let's see, how long did it take just hearsay to pull down Cain? Three weeks. Newt's history is much more d_mning and documented. By the time the media is finished with him, he'll be battling Huntsman for the bottom. Note the media attack on Newt follows the line...you criticize democrats about Fannie and Freddie, yet you took money from them. They'll follow the same line on any Republican candidate that has followed any policy in the past that remotely looks liberal. That's why you need the most solid conservative opponent possible that has not compromised.

Newts sometimes RINOness aside.... This article is very interesting. Newt made his stupid "Conservative Social Engineering" comment early in his campaign. Then all of his advisors left for Perry... Then Perry stupid "You don't have a heart comment" surfaced. The article asks if it was the same advisors that came up with these ideas??? So to your point.... the RINOness, whoever the nominee, we need to be vigilant about who the nominates to the cabinet and who are their advisors....

You can get your point across without attacking someone on a personal level can’t you? Although reviewing what you just wrote, I guess you had no point worth considering after all. So, please disregard the second half of this post.

C Edmund and Throwback, this is the stuff that drives me insane. Not even Palin meets your threshold of purity.
How can we win if we can’t unify on backing all our candidates (perhaps less Huntsman and Ron Paul) until we know who’s left standing against Obama. Yes, I’d even back Romney over Obama as I at least want my country to survive.
We need to get out of gradeschool in politics whereas the enemy, the Soros/Ayers/Obama regime is in college already.

Hope you aren’t right. Newt is a much more qualified and deeper candidate than Cain. Cain doesn’t have the experience or the knowledge of the issues. He is not a good debator from a facts standpoint. It looks like he is not able to come up with the right answers at times. I just think Newt is a much better candidate.

"But increasingly, the Republican nomination process for 2012 is becoming a battle between Romney and "Not-Romney".
True. Not sure I buy the rest of your analysis. When the choice is Obama and "Not-Obama," I think you'll be surprised how many choose the latter.
I still think Elmer Fudd can beat this guy. The only way that DOESN'T happen is if the Mittsters align with Obama---a possibility, but a remote one given his toxic nature.

My god, newt has done this same old thing for years, you ask newt a question, he spends five minutes rephrasing and bitching about it, while he is trying to come up with an answer, and then gives you as many fake answers as possible without committing to anything. He loves to sling sit at the wall to see if he can get anything to stick. He has had hundreds of interviews on c span, look up some of the old ones and watch him. Newt is a big government crony capitalist. And he has always been. He also supports amnesty.

We are out of gradeschool in politics. We have a senior veteran who holds a PHD, with over 30 years of on the job experience in that area. His name is Newt Gigrich.

I’m sorry. I re-read my post. I’m not too proud to admit I was wrong. I just want unity, and we keep tossing our guys under the bus to be left with no one. There is no great white knight. We better get shrewd or we’re gone.

You know good and well that the Mitt supporters will head over to Newt in a New York second. Once they realize that Romney is just not catching on, or up. And consider the reason that Romney has stayed in one place. It all has to do with some very large campaign fund contributors who invested in him early. They will be throwing all of that away.
Even knowing that, Romney is starting to lose even them and Newt is slowly gaining.

I agree on that angle/plane of analysis...he can run circles around them in debates...that isn’t the issue. The issue is whether he’ll be shredded by the MSM, and when that starts (it already has), our side will claim he wasn’t pristine enough and we’ll dump him like Cain and we’ll be left with Romney. Now I’ll vote for Romney over Obama, but I’d rather take Rush’s advice and not endorse anyone yet and back ALL our candidates (less Huntsman and Paul) until it is over and we’re left with Obama vs. our side. Hope that makes sense. I’ve had a bit of coffee this morning and I’m talking too fast.

You have a point. But I would like conservatives to rally around all candidates, not just their favorites. I heard Laura Ingraham subtly dumping on Cain the other day. Today she's defending Newt. I actually back Bachmann, but the evidence against Cain is extremely weak. Yet many of the so-called right wing radio shows played the audio of Cain's Libya gaffe. Granted it happened, but I assume it was 2 minutes out of a several hour interview. So they play the 2 minutes, and they play into the intended effect; presto he's now an idiot and a womanizer.

Thanks for the acknowledgment. It says a lot about you in a very good way.
In regards to your concern, I believe that we have started to do just that. I not only see a milder tone around here in general, but I believe that Unity will come all on it's own.
I see Newt Gingrich bringing that cause to the front. But he is doing it with class and courage as well.
Nobody has been harder on Newt than he has been on himself. I believe he really means what he is saying. That cannot be faked if he were not being honest with himself.

>> Dream ON. Newtie has 2 chances. VERY VERY SLIM. NONE. . . .>> Thanks for the drive by comment. Dreaming has nothing to do with it. Newt has quadrupled his support in the past weeks. That has already happened. This piece merely gives opinions as to why that has happened. Will it last? Short of scandal, I think it will. But Fannie may be the scandal. At any rate, his support has surged and there are reasons for it. This piece simply names them.
Will the Fannie thing rise to the level of "scandal"? I doubt it. It seems like a snoozer of a story. There's nothing shocking or salacious about it. There's certainly nothing illegal. It seems to blend in as "old news" like the rest of Newt's past. What's it really saying - Newt swam in D.C. circles? Wow! Shocking!
Cain's troubles on the other hand - justified or not - were salacious and shocking. It cast a light that was totally out of character for Cain. This is the sort of stuff that gives the story "legs". Follow that up with a poor debate performance, inopportune mental lapses, gaffes, and sliding poll numbers - and we have what we have. The narrative/conventional wisdom is written and begins to feed on itself...
Newt may also gain from the increase awareness that the knives come out when a candidate rises in the polls. It may serve to inoculate him to a certain extent. That inoculation may move the bar higher in terms of what it takes to knock a candidate out. In fact, I think Cain has actually been the beneficiary of this to a certain extent. His poll numbers - although headed in the wrong direction - still has him in the top tier, leaving many of the talking-heads a bit perplexed by his staying-power.
