Abramoff accuses Newt Gingrich of 'corruption.' Really.
Politico ^ | 11/16/11 | MAGGIE HABERMAN

Posted on 11/16/2011 11:34:29 PM PST by federal__reserve

Gregory asked Abramoff - who finished a jail stint over a year ago on influence-peddling charges and has been promoting his recently-published book - about the strategic counseling fee of over $1 million that was paid to Newt Gingrich by housing giant Freddie Mac.

"What do you make of all that?" Gregory asked.

Abramoff replied, "This is exactly what I'm talking about. People who come to Washington who have public service and they cash in on it. And they use their public service and their access to make money, and unfortunatley Newt Gingrich is one of them who have done it.

First you limit time that congress is in session then you pass laws that make it a felony to take any money, gifts rides, ticket anything that you did not pay for. Then outlaw lobbyist in Washington D. C.!!!!! Oh yea make it a felony to buy or sell stock while in congress!!!

The cleanest way to eliminate government corruption is to limit the length of time anyone can serve in the House and the Senate. Many State gov’ts do this why not the Feds? It certainly would cut out the lifetime benefits.

Agreed! Term limits will be very effective in draining the swamp. Although the presidents benefit quite handsomely in spite of being term limited.

If the tax laws are simple, such as a flat tax with no deductions and no loopholes, there is absolutely nothing the lobbyists have left to lobby for.

And of course bail outs & earmarks are other two twin hydra’s which breed corruption.

First you limit time that congress is in session

That would indeed be most helpful. Congress should be in regular session no more than 2 months of a year.

Then you pass laws that make it a felony to take any money, gifts rides, ticket anything that you did not pay for. Then outlaw lobbyist in Washington D. C.!!!!! Oh yea make it a felony to buy or sell stock while in congress!!!

NO! Stop with laws, laws, laws. Laws don't make people honest. The proof is what we have today -- thousands-times of more laws and regulations than prior generations and yet our elites are overrun by dishonesty and self-dealing.

Newts got it coming to him, lotsa baggage this boy’z got.

He Newt it when he got into this race, he’z no dummy.

Newt is a big government globalist through and through. A political animal rife with shady happenings and grey area dealings.

I also viewed a video years ago in which Newt was down in Mexico, speaking to a crowd in fluent Spanish, promising immigration reform.

What does this article keep getting “bumped up” the BREAKING News sidebar?

WTH cares what Abramoff and Politico-Democrats say? Now since Newt is polling well, people suddenly want to talk about Frannie/Freddie.

That is rich.

Whenever anything breaks, people will talk about it. Why do you think they were talking about sexual harassment a while back?

Although I agree with everything you said, there is one thing I like about Newt. He would be the best in debates with Obama. I am supporting who ever is the nominee in the general election against Obama.

Near as I can tell Abramoff has no specifics on Newt and he is just talking in generalities. So far all talk from Abramoff.

Abramoff reminds me of a a dried-out drunkard who rants at anyone who likes to have a drink. Both seek redemption by becoming insufferable scolds. I recommend steering clear of such characters. Most of us have a decent level of self-control and don’t need lectures on morality from characters who’ve only just picked themselves out from the slop, and are anxious to acquire a veneer of righteousness by berating others.

“The cleanest way to eliminate all corruption is to make the tax code SIMPLE, and with no loop holes. Then the lobbyists lose their entire usefulness.”

Yes indeed, that is called draining the swamp, cleaning up the cess pool in this case literally.

Democrats would have us attempt to go after & attack each and every lobbies with a law or amendment. If that were possible it would have worked when we did have laws against theses things.

It is not possible for goverment to successfully go after each and every one who attempts to lobbies for 2 reasons:

1: Disinterest, As it happens not only are Goverment political not inanely interested in honestly prosecuting their bread & butter, so too is the bureaucrats that “work for politicians”.

2: There are an infinite number of lobbyist and a finite number of federal courts, prosecutors, and watch dogs with an even more finite supply public attention to keep the same honest(due to issue #1). No sooner could you catch one then 50 more will pop up else where.

You either drain the swamp or they who are native to the swamp will rule the swamp.

You are correct, Ten. Google "The Tipping Point." This report was given to the World Bank that shows how onces a country's debt to GDP ratio exceeds 77%, any expansion by the Gov. causes a corresponding contraction in the private sector.

Second is the derivative bubble (most conservative estimates peg it at $200 Trillion). When that pops, a lot of houses built on sand will come tumbling down.

The next President will reside over a financial graveyard. It's important that we pick someone with vision, initiative, and a thorough understanding of what made America great and our founding documents - so that we all don't go running into the arms of some communist hybrid in the future.

It is amazing how uncoordinated some FR posters are about pressing the Post button more than once.

And what did Newt say in his six annual six-page reports to Freddie Mac, Mr. Inside Washington?

That’s true. And such laws which exempt classes of citizens from this or that law, imho, violate the “general welfare” clause of the Constitution.

Our Constitution also has in it the term “corruption of blood”: by parallel formulation we are unwise to ennoble a class.
