Gregory asked Abramoff - who finished a jail stint over a year ago on influence-peddling charges and has been promoting his recently-published book - about the strategic counseling fee of over $1 million that was paid to Newt Gingrich by housing giant Freddie Mac.
"What do you make of all that?" Gregory asked.
Abramoff replied, "This is exactly what I'm talking about. People who come to Washington who have public service and they cash in on it. And they use their public service and their access to make money, and unfortunatley Newt Gingrich is one of them who have done it.

It sounds like Abramoff is going after Newt.
but then Id love to see what the work looks like that that Newt did....
In Newts defense .....they all do it
maybe the cleanest way to make money after politics is giving speeches
The cleanest way to eliminate all corruption is to make the tax code SIMPLE, and with no loop holes. Then the lobbyists lose their entire usefulness.
What else would u expect from a long time, insider DC Hack like Gingrich.
Abramoff knows a lot about corruption.
Gingrich and the rest of the DC hacks (Past and Present)
are the reason this country is in a death spiral now.
For those of you who believe the same hacks on both sides who have brought this death spiral upon us are the ones who can solve it, u might want to wake-up.
Until most of the DC hacks are retired, this spiral will continue. The ones in office now have proven they are incapable of saving this country. That leaves only one option... a total collapse.
Abramoff is in full image rebuilding mode. What better way to get on the MSM’s good graces than start hammering the GOP after being one. Watch this crooked loser make it to more and more prime interviews to peddle his book and smear the Right.
I have to agree. With president Newt, it will be a miracle if any true reforms take place. He is the consummate Washington insider.
The only thing I like about Newt is his debates with Obama will be interesting. And if he is the nominee I will vote for him. Beyond that, nothing much will change.
The fact that Politico and Abrahoof (a convicted felon) are going after Newt matters little to me. It is expected.
I will put on my kevlar proof jammies.
I don’t think we have a candidate that will beat the big “O”. I am focussing on the Congressional and Senatorial race at this point.
That being the case, I would dearly love to see O bashed in a debate.
There is no doubt that Newt could do that. And maybe create some doubt with some of the independents.
Newt may not be president...but he may have a part to play.
I would vote for any of the nominees, before I would let O have another 4 years. (Well, Myth and Paul could cause me some serious grief.)
Regardless of who the GOP nominee is and if that nominee becomes President, the death spiral will continue.
I believe we have already passed the point of no return.
I am finding myself spending less time worrying about Politics
And more time planning for what the future holds 8-10 years down the road.
The RATs will go after whoever is the front runner.
Get used to it people.
This will be the nastiest political season ever.
EVER
Given the continued losses at Freddie Mac, I think Newt should give his consulting fees back. His advice was either unheeded or not worth it.
Newt got the contract because he’s part of the “ruling/political class”
Newt has been lead down the wrong path and stood in the crap of Washington. Also Abramoff is no judge of men’s character. The evil in Washington has existed too long. The evil is in too many souls in Washington. I know one man will not fix it.
His record as Speaker is really quite impressive.
I don’t think there is much love between Newt and the congress, after the way he was ousted from it.
Newt is one we’ll have to watch, but then, aren’t they all?
It was the same tag team going after Cain.
Abramoff looking for attention in the MSM... Gets more face time on the shows and sells more books.
If there wasn’t a Freddie Mac, there wouldn’t be a problem.
I heard this abrahoff criminal in an interview on wmal in wdc. he says he owes $44 MILLION in fines for his indiscretions. Pay that first, then talk, you felon.
“Politico, teams up with MSNBC to go after Newt.
It was the same tag team going after Cain. “
And a good chunk of the conservative media helped them out, so they can get a candidate they liked better.
So let’s see how our brain trust deals with this one.
“Newt should give his consulting fees back. His advice was either unheeded or not worth it.”
Well, Freddie Mac did get their $181 billion bailout with support from republicans. For them, buying Gingrich was a very good deal.
