When Chevrolet unveiled the 580 hp 2012 Camaro ZL1 and its high-tech magnetically-adjustable suspension, ostensibly claiming the title of king of the pony cars, the folks from Ford were oddly unfazed.
Dont worry, they said, wait until you see what we have in the works.
They werent kidding.
The 2013 Shelby GT500 will come packing a 650 hp supercharged engine that Ford says is the most powerful production V8 in the world. The 5.8-liter mill sends its 600 lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels via a carbon fiber driveshaft.

Varooom ping...
Try 140 on a motorcycle, and I still had 1500 RPM to go. The road becomes a thread.
Gunner
I wish. We could do it in some parts of West Texas if it weren’t for the wind.
“Im surprised to see that the aerodynamics of the Mustang will do 200 mph.”
You can push a lot of air with 600 horsepower.
Sheds a whole new light on the old muscle-car songs.
With all the talk about 600 horsepower engines, 200 mph top speeds, blue tooth, satnav, and on and on with modern conveniences, I'm thinking my next car may well be one of these....
correction:
You can push a lot of air with 650 horsepower.
Yee haw!
Original or MGT-D kit on VW platform? (I’ve always wanted to build one of the better kids like a Morgan- just for the challenge.)
I find I think the same way myself.
Maybe I am getting old?
But, yes, I think it would be fun to own one of those old MGs. They had what...65 horsepower or something like that? And the gearing was so low you could climb trees....
But they look neat, and I just think they would be a load of fun to tool around in. (Just be home before dark, LOL)

“But, yes, I think it would be fun to own one of those old MGs.” Let me clarify: A real one. Not a VW MG wannabe.
My Class 1 car(600hp LS3) will go 125+ in the dirt. I have had it up to 100mph in the whoops and it rides like a Cadillac! When I built it my choice was dirt/sand or the street. To many tards on the street and if you get a few tickets or wrecks, your screwed.
I am no pro, but it is my understanding that they did it to save money. (yeah, I know).
But the good news is it looks like this one gets a new, active high tech suspension. So who knows..maybe you can actually go around corners in it now!
If OBongo has his way it will be an Auto BAN.
Unless you drive a Dolt, er Volt from Government Motors that is...
And your life insurance policy will be automatically cancelled...or bumped up to $50,000 per year.
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Would have been a great car for the good old days pre-’74 in Montana. The speed limit was just “reasonable and prudent.” Alas, those days are gone.
I remember Dad cruising across Montana at 90 in our big old ‘66 Bonneville. Not quite the same as this Mustang, though.
Probably built and marketed for police work esp. the hiway patrol on interstate 8 near El Centro.
