Gov. Scott Walker has lost support among his Republican base, according to a poll released Tuesday that shows a majority of respondents want to recall him from office.
The Wisconsin Public Radio/St. Norbert College Survey was released the same day that Democrats, labor unions and others, angry over his moves to curb union rights, began circulating petitions to get the 540,000 signatures needed to force a recall election next year.
The poll showed that 58 percent of respondents believe Walker should be recalled from office. That compares with 47 percent who said in April that he should be recalled.
The growth in support for a recall came, surprisingly, from Republicans. In the spring, only 7 percent of Republicans supported recalling Walker but that grew to 24 percent in the fall. Support among Democrats held mainly steady at 88 percent in the spring and 92 percent in the fall.
Pollster Wendy Scattergood said Republicans who support recalling Walker are younger, have a lower income and are less educated than the rest of the sample in the poll. They also describe themselves as less conservative than other Republicans, she said.
Republican Party spokeswoman Nicole Larson dismissed the poll, saying the genuine feelings of voters can be found talking to those who are saving money thanks to Walker's policies designed to hold down taxes.
"Governor Walker is leading Wisconsin forward and the voters of this state will continue to support his responsible leadership," Larson said.
The decline in support also showed up in Walker's approval rating. Overall, 48 percent of survey respondents in the spring disapproved of the job he was doing. That increased to 58 percent in Tuesday's results.
Among Republicans, only 9 percent disapproved of Walker's job performance in the spring but that grew to 21 percent in the fall.
The telephone survey of 482 Wisconsin residents was done between Nov. 1 and Thursday. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 5 percentage points.
It takes enormous courage for politicians to act responsibly and stand up to the special interests. The reason we have so much corruption is that honest people are targeted for defeat and forced out of the system. Then, only the most despicable thieves and liars remain in government.
The corrupt state media are doing all they can to pimp the recall story and gin up a horse race. Who makes money in such an instance? The TV stations and newspapers that run millions of dollars in political ads. They have a financial interest in fanning the flames which IMO is greatly assisting the recall whackjobs.
Personally, I can not believe the Unions are doing this. As the truth comes out about what the Unions were truly fighting for, they look bad. If Walker mounts a strong campaign while Obama continues to decline, Wisconsin will be in play for the Republicans. I am surprised the DNC has allowed the Unions to pursue this recall. The only reason I can think of is that I am been wrong. The DNC does not control the Unions, the Unions control the DNC.
Yeah, I believe Republicans are siding with anarchist SEIU thugs..*rolls eyes*
Wisconsin Governor: Walker's Approval Numbers Edge Up Slightly
Rasmussen Reports: Saturday, October 29, 2011
Nearly seven months after large-scale protests first erupted in Wisconsin against his budget bill limiting collective bargaining rights for public employees, new polling shows state voters have a slightly improved opinion of Governor Scott Walker.
The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Wisconsin Voters shows that 38% Strongly Approve of the job Walker is doing, while the same number (38%) Strongly Disapproves.
The survey of 500 Likely Voters in Wisconsin was conducted on October 26, 2011 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/- 4.5 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence.
Do you have a more recent poll? That poll was from 3 weeks ago.
The "Minnesota Poll" has had every Democrat running for elective office up by anywhere from 8-15 points on election eve for the last two decades.
Even the eventual losers.
You are right. This is a push poll to help sign people up.
just a poll to shape opinion for vote fraud cover
Wisconsin appears to be taking its cues from Greece now.
By this time, Wisconsin Marxist Radio has had enough time to properly select the sample. They could have gotten a majority for summary execution, if they wanted.
See this thread for cached pages that have now disappeared from the web.
push poll
So let their state become Greece. Then the people can cry and whine and Americans will give them the finger like they deserve.
Probably rigged Poll. Scott Walker is doing exactly what he said he would. Otherwise the state is moronic.
I'll be a little surprised -- but not shocked-- if they even collect enough valid signatures (Mickey Mouse, Daffy Duck etc etc not being bona fide Wisconsin residents) in 60 days.
482 Wisconsin “residents”? What is that? Do you think this is a liberal rag? Just wondering.
