Protestor Ralph Wittenberg told TPM on Tuesday evening that authorities came through searching for a so-called terrorist who shot at the White House, with no warrant, they went into everybodys tents. What a complete Twit ! Is a warrant required for squatters ?

Actually, even on federal property you need probable cause. Given that none of those folks had a permit for a tent, the tents weren't really there. But, yes, you'd need a warrent to stop and frisk the squatters, and no, you don't need a warrent to enter into an unpermitted structure, but a tent, as it turns out, is not a structure at all! It's more like an article of clothing (under the circumstances).
I think the federales had it right in this instance.

“Is a warrant required for squatters ?”
There’s actually a case out there from the loony Ninth Circuit that held that a warrantless arrest in a tent on public grounds violated the 4th Amendment:
“The threshold issue is whether the Fourth Amendment protects a person’s privacy interests in a tent located on a public campground...We hold that Gooch’s warrantless arrest in his tent violated the proscription of the Fourth Amendment, absent exigent circumstances.”

...What a complete Twit...Is a warrant required for squatters?...Fourth Amendment to the United States Constitution
The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.
Doesn't say anything about "except squatters". Who's the twit now?
