“Is a warrant required for squatters ?”
There’s actually a case out there from the loony Ninth Circuit that held that a warrantless arrest in a tent on public grounds violated the 4th Amendment:
“The threshold issue is whether the Fourth Amendment protects a person’s privacy interests in a tent located on a public campground...We hold that Gooch’s warrantless arrest in his tent violated the proscription of the Fourth Amendment, absent exigent circumstances.”

I would expect nothing less from the Ninth Circus.
I would consider searching for a person after shooting st an occupied structure as an extingent circumstance. No warrant needed.
The authorities had said earlier that an AK-47 assault rifle was found in the abandoned car, and that the evidence at the scene led the authorities to seek Oscar Ramiro Ortega, 21, described as 5-feet-11 and 160 pounds, with a medium build, brown eyes and black hair, and distinctive tattoos.
The Park Police, who have issued a warrant for Mr. Ortegas arrest, also said he had a tattoo with the word Israel on his neck, and published photos with other details of his appearance including a heavy beard and other tattoos.
News reports said that Mr. Ortega had an encounter with police in Arlington, Virginia, early on Friday, outside a house where he was believed to be squatting, but they did not arrest him.
ABC News reported that Mr. Ortega has a criminal record that includes domestic violence and drug charges.
