I would also support an optional school tax for non parents. You might be surprised at how many non parents like myself would be OK with paying a reasonable tax to prevent the dumbing down of America.

Instead of an oxymoronic “optional tax,” call it a charitable donation in support of education for the less-well-off. I make contributions to private education, in spite of paying all my own children’s educational costs plus taxes to support the county schools we don’t use. I’m sure others would, too, if the institutions demonstrated results.

Why a tax?

Why not just make donations to the scholarship fund of a worthy local private school?

This would more directly help some families who don't have the means on their own to escape the public school cesspool.
