But you know better that that. Reagan also reduced the size of Government and cut spending.

The current so called closed loopholes or increased revenues will go to increase the size of this already gargantuan government.

All any of this current propaganda amounts to is, posturing for a Democrat sweep in the 2012 elections. Much like the Democrats did to get Obamacare passed. They hijacked the CBO into another bogus report that Obama care would actually reduce the deficit.

And you buy it quite thoughtlessly. Congratulations! You are now a part owner in the Brooklyn Bridge.

When I used to get phone calls from the RNC phone bank requesting money, I would simply explain to the caller what a despicable job the RNC had been doing, and refuse to offer any support until it changed.

Recently I’ve changed that policy to slamming the phone down when they call, as soon as they identify themselves.

If the RNC couldn’t rely on young people and people who are tuned out, it would crash and burn.

The RNC is a branch of the DNC, pure and simple.

In doing so, he bucked opposition by some GOP presidential hopefuls and colleagues

And the entire Republican base.

No spending is going to be cut with the Democrats controlling the senate and Obama in the White House. You’re going to have to defeat Obama and take the senate for that to happen. In the meantime, if we can get *some* semblance of tax reform, that preserves the so-called Bush tax cuts, lowers rates, and eliminate deductions, I don’t think that’s a bad thing.

But I have serious doubts that Dems will go along with that. They are committed to real, tangible increases in tax rates and the repeal of the Bush tax cuts. They also don’t want an agreement because they want to be able to run against Republicans as wanting to preserve tax cuts for the rich at the expense of seniors, the poor, minorities, the jobless, etc etc....the same tired BS they’ve been peddling for decades.

"The end sum is that the govt reaps $300 BILLION in revenue."

Not if they are linked to new, lower income tax rates that result in a reduced Federal Income tax income. But, worst case, it can simplify the tax code (saving corporations and individuals millions if not billions in tax prep $) and gets rid of all the tax favors that have been voted in over the years. GE et al could then have the privilege of paying taxes too.

That would be wonderful, if what you are saying that is supposedly in this bill were actually true. But it is not saying that lower income bracket taxpayers will have “loopholes” closed and suddenly start paying their share.

This bill only applies to upper income brackets (again) who get tax breaks by various tax shelters. If anything it will discourage more investment and business it will be this kind of stupidity.

The same tired BS from Republicans you mean, don’t you. We know what to expect from Democrats. Boehner is trying to pi$$ up our leg and tell us it’s raining. It’s a tax increase. No other way to spin it.

2. Run a wimp like Romeny and keep the base at home.

This will not work - I will still vote, just not for Prez.

If deductions are limited/eliminated and rates are lowered, I do not consider that a tax increase. I consider that flattening the rates, which is a good thing.

The article does not give details. If you can provide details about what Boehner is talking about specifically, I’d love to hear it. Please cite your sources too with links.

Go to original article.
This is the first sentence

“House Speaker John A. Boehner publicly blessed a Republican deficit-reduction plan Tuesday that would raise $300 billion in additional tax revenue while overhauling the IRS code”.

I don’t see any reduced federal tax income here.
I see $300 Billion in additional tax revenue.
Over?

I read some freepers are cool with this because they assume that $300 billion in additional revenue is going to come from GE and some other guy’s loophole being closed. And their tax rates are going to be lowered. And this is going to matter somehow in reducing the debt.

d.oh.

Won’t this make him a greater hero in OH, as it is a high-tax state?

Not in Cincinnati, where they once elected Jerry Springer mayor. People in OH think Boehner is effective and will stick with him, never knowing the truth.

After 2010 I advocated giving Boehner a chance. He supposedly negotiated a "tough" budget package with spending cuts near 100 billion. Then they turned out to be 68 billion, then 38 billion, then about 1.98. Complete fail. Boehner is a waste and needs to go.

To be fair, Boehner didn't really lie. He is an establishment republican and ran as an establishment republican, who mouthed conservative platitudes after the election. That's when he began to lie, and he hasn't stopped since.

One could also get $300 billion from closing loopholes ("tax expenditures"), which I might approve of if we chose the right ones.

Translation: "as long as they screw the other guy and not me."

Look: There is one good conservative means to increasing revenues: do whatever you need to do to grow the economy, and increases in revenues will follow as night the day.

Closing loopholes, changing rates, these are trivial and nonsolutions, no matter what the numbers, they can only be neutral at best and most likely negative.
